Author Jason Allen in his book titled ‘Discerning Your Call to Ministry’
mainly focuses on the determination of the call that God has placed on
the lives of Christian readers for Ministry. In the very beginning, the
author has clarified that all Christians are called to be a part of ministry. In
the Great Commission, Jesus Christ has clearly told his followers to make
disciples. According to Allen, some Christians are called to ministry to
serve as a pastor, which is a full-time ministry position[1].
After introducing the topic to the readers, Allen has presented ten
questions to help them understand whether they are truly called to be a
part of ministry or not. Some of the questions revolve around whether
readers have the desire for the ministry or not, their intention to
surrender, and their willingness to follow the call of God regardless of
where it leads them. The writer has done a commendable job to provide a
direction to the readers to the center of each question raised by him.
My personal calling has been very similar to what has been promoted by
Jason Allen. I felt like I was called to the Christian ministry from the very
moment I started having faith in Jesus Christ in college. Even though it
was many years ago, I remember very vividly as I sincerely believed that
Jesus wanted me to serve in the ministry and convert non-believers into
His disciples. When I look back at the specific phase of my life, I have
come to the realization that I have answered each of the questions that
have been raised by author Allen. Even though the questions were not put
before me in such a direct manner but I have addressed them in my
course of life.
There was a time I was really hurt by the local church due to which I
became distant from ministry and denied the calling of the Almighty. I
have succeeded to overcome the obstacle and I along with my family
regularly involve ourselves in the local church. Over the years, I have
surrendered myself to God. After overcoming the challenge that I faced, I
have against started to address the questions that have been highlighted
by Allen[2]. I believe that it is important to question God’s call on one’s
life for ministry. By asking this question, Christians can get the privilege to
be a part of the ministry.4
