Critically Thinking About the External Business Environment
The environment consists of several external conditions and forces with the potential to
influence organizations' daily activities. Understanding the external environment that surrounds
firms is essential for the executives in charge of managing the environment. Studying the
business environment is essential because the resources required to create goods and services are
from the environment. Second, the environment is a source of numerous opportunities and
threats. Threats usually undermine a firm's performance but once identified, they can get
mitigated (Rumelt, 2011). On the other hand, opportunities are chances for firms to improve their
performance levels. Organization executives must understand that any business environment can
provide opportunities for one firm and threats for another, even in extreme cases. For example,
some businesses are affected during a disease pandemic, while others flourish in harsh
conditions.
Process: Evaluating the External Environment
No organization is powerful or strong enough to impact significant changes in the
external business environment. Therefore, business managers usually adapt to the environment
