1. What are the independent and dependent variables in this study?
In order to understand the variables of the study, it is important to understand the
difference between independent and dependent variables first. “The dependent variable (DV) is
of primary interest to the researcher; it is measured, predicted, or otherwise monitored and is
expected to be affected by manipulation of an independent variable (IV), another variable of
primary interest” (Schindler, 2022, p. 15). Independent variables are anticipated facts or factual,
and dependent variables are like a forecast of what the outcome will be. Schindler provides an
example of the relationship, “The introduction of a four-day working week (IV) will lead to
higher productivity (DV)” (Schindler, 2022, p. 15).
