According to the current situation that is happening around the world, it is important to
mention certain things about the pandemic. The question that many people asked themselves
was, what is going to happen in this COVID-19 pandemic, and how the health department and its
employees are going to handle this?. Thompson (2020, p.267) mentions in the book, that there is
“three sets of questions whenever a new strategic initiative” is in practice. One of those questions
is: “Is what we are proposing to do fully compliant with our code of ethical conduct? Are there
any areas of ambiguity that may be of concern?” (Thompson, 2020, p.267). Is important to
mention that ethical coherence was and is a central pillar of medical work, and in the midst of an
extraordinary demand for resources it has been challenged. As seen in the past few months, the
availability of resources generally does not get into the decision-making and choices of the
individual, until resources become so scarce that they do not allow treating all the patients who
could hypothetically benefit from a specific clinical treatment. In other words, it seems that
medical staff stopped discussing whether a patient benefited or not, but moreover whether a
patient benefited more or less than another patient. Medical staff acted according to the principle
of treating with greater intensity the person who can benefit the most, also making decisions that
also benefit a greater number of people, that is, in accordance with the principle of equity or
equality. COVID‐19 has forced healthcare workers in developed countries to confront moral
dilemmas that have received limited attention from policymakers, clinicians and ethicists until
now (Chew & Ko, 2020). It can certainly be said that the pandemic has generated an alteration of
the principles and values that united societies, generating a certain “moral chaos”. This situation
has created ethical and social issues. As the author Kim & Grady (2020) said in their article,
“Not inflicting patients with invasive treatments that they do not want must remain a high

priority, as is the need to have compassionate, aggressive, and skilled palliative care available”.
Ethically, everybody should and should have been treated the same.
The bible says in Isaiah 1:17-19, “Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression;
bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause. Come now, let us reason together, says
the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red
like crimson, they shall become like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good
of the land;” (English Standard Version). As can be seen in Isaiah 1, there is a problem that is
immediately apparent. God's analysis is that the human race is fundamentally corrupted with
self-centeredness, so they do not want to do what is good. People just want to minister to their
selves and their own lives. The solution is in Isaiah 1:16, “Wash yourselves; make yourselves
clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil,” (English Standard
Version). The questions are how evil people can do good things, and that can be answer in Isaiah
1:17-19 (ESV). It cannot be said better than that because there is no remedy and the man itself
cannot be heal. It is needed to do more to change man itself, and that can only occur having a
relationship with God. As the bible verse of Isaiah 1:16, this pandemic could have been managed
better if the administration had been clear and honest from the beginning, but many think that it
was not handle truthful in numbers and misinformation. Also, if citizens would have followed the
CDC guidelines as they were stated and recommended when everything started, including using
the mask, perhaps the situation could have been more controlled.
It is very important to mention how due to the pandemic COVID-19, it has been seen
companies and some people other faces. This is definitely a very delicate and hard situation that
everybody is going through at this time. It has put many people to take difficult decisions, that
not everybody could handle. From a personal and Christian standpoint, not many people could

handle the difficult decisions that doctors have had to take on many people’s lives. Also, the
question is whether these medical personnel have been completely honest with themselves in
terms of the care they have given to those affected, if they have all been treated equally and if the
care that they have received has been an ethical one. At this time this is really difficult to answer
as most people feel that they are on a loop and the news can be manipulating everything to this
day. As it is stated in Isaiah 1:17-19 (ESV), everybody must learn to do good and do what is right
and listen to God’s word even more during these difficult times. Citizens and in this case medical
staff, need to fight oppression and do what is right with the affected people with COVID-19.
There is no better feeling than to do what is right and to help and care about other people no
matter who they are. Let’s always be truthful to each other and follow God steps to be and to do
better every day.
