The author, Michael Pace, is an Executive Professor, Department of Management, Texas
A&M University, TX, USA. He presented the research paper to explore the correlation
between project management methodology and project success in 2018. The Journal of
Engineering, Project & Production Management published the research paper in 2019.
furthermore, the paper also examines the moderating variables of industry and project
management experience. The paper conducted a survey and utilized a sample
representing North American project managers with a minimum of five years' experience,
25 years of age or older, and hands-on experience with multiple project management
methodologies. The paper surveyed 58 questions, designed in three sections;
demographic information, questions related to a successful project, and a less-than-
successful project. The study collected a total of 367 usable responses. The findings did
not conclusively support a strong correlation between a project management
methodology and reported project success, and this correlation is not subject to any
particular industry or experience portfolio of project management experience.
Furthermore, the paper underlined that the effectiveness of project management practice
could vary depending on the organizational context and organizational structure. Hence,
project management professionals must review all other critical attributes of project
management, the most suitable project management methodology and framework.

Abdulla, H., & Al-Hashimi, M. (2019). The Impact of Project Management Methodologies
on Project Success: A Case Study of the Oil and Gas Industry. Journal of
Engineering, Project & Production Management, 9(2), 115–125.
https://doi.org/10.2478/jeppm-2019-0013
The team of two academic scholars, Hazem Abdulla and Mukhtar Al-Hashimi, conducted
the study paper. The Journal of Engineering, Project & Production Management
published it in 2019. Hazem Abdulla is MSc Graduate, Engineering Management and
Systems Engineering Department, The George Washington University, USA. Mukhtar
Al-Hashimi is a Professor College of Business and Finance, Ahlia University, Kingdom
of Bahrain.
The paper argued that, due to broad socio-economic and geopolitical factors, the oil and
gas industry is complex and competitive, and its projects pose importance and complexity
by nature. In order to achieve sustainable business growth, oil and gas organizations need
to plan, initiate, implement, and deliver projects within critical constraints of project
management; scope, cost, schedule, and quality. Therefore, the paper emphasized
employing efficient Project Management Methodologies (PMMs) for successful project
delivery.
The paper developed and used correlational and regression analyses to test the
hypothesis. The research utilized questionnaire data from 95 project management
practitioners within the oil and gas industry in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The research also
included 17 semi-structured interviews to secure an in-depth understanding of the
organizational Project Management Methodologies (PMMs). The critical finding showed
that applied Project Management Methodologies (PMMs) significantly contribute to

project success more than comprehensive PMMs. The paper recommended that Bahrain's
oil and gas industry conduct a comprehensive analysis of their project management
methodologies and adopt a proactive approach to choosing methodology primarily based
on the requirements and scope of the project for sustainable business growth. The paper
recognizes the implications of employing the most practical methodology to deliver a
successful project.
