Michael, great in-depth analysis of the case study and discussion on the importance of
project prioritization. Today, we are constantly striving for bigger and better projects, but are
limited on time, money, materials, and manpower. With the number of requirements growing in
the fast-paced business environment, it is important to have a system in place to best prioritize
and select which projects to allocate an organization’s resources. To add to your discussion,
within the project selection process, specific criteria needs to be identified early so that biases do
not interfere with the project selection process (Gisler et al., 2018). Gray and Larson (2021)
discuss how must objectives are criteria determined by executive management that must be met
to even consider a project proposal to be executed. Looking at the project evaluation you
conducted, you have project proposal 4 “Escape from Rio Japuni” as the number 1 priority,
whereas I have project proposal 6 as the number 1 priority. Both proposals are similar in the
amount of potential success they have including the environmental concerns, ROI, and being
animation. However, the reason project proposal 6 is my number 1 priority is because it is a big-
budget film that is going to integrate actual footage of a realistic ocean environment and has a
better chance at winning awards.

Mariah, I enjoyed reading your discussion on the film case study and your insight on how you
prioritized the film proposals. Specifically, I liked how you talked about components of project
proposals and the importance of having key project objectives identified for each proposal. I
agree that this exercise of prioritizing the proposals was fun considering that project
prioritization is key in any organization. One of the many benefits of effective project portfolio
management is that it prioritizes project proposals across specific criteria, rather than just on
emotion or political biases (Gray & Larson, 2021). You mentioned that one of the factors that
influenced your prioritization is your opinion on how successful you thought the films would be
based on your interest levels. While I appreciate your comment on having passion as project
managers, when it comes to project selection, we as project managers need to be as objective as
possible according to criteria set by top management. It is not our job to decide what is important
for the company, but it is up to management based on strategic objectives set based on the
mission and vision. We must have integrity in not bringing in our biases as we are reminded in 1
Peter 3:16 which states “Having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who
revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame” (English Standard Version Bible,
2001).
