Judy,
You did an excellent job on both the thread and replies. Your discussion of model vs.
theory is excellent! You do a wonderful job of supporting your endorsement of the
PRECEDE-PROCEED model. Both the thread and the replies are well-written.
Excellent Job!
Your post drafts an appealing endorsement for the utilization of the Patch (Planned
Approach to Community Health) model. Your definition of the PATCH model gives insights into
its significance and meaning. According to the text, PATCH is a well-established, effective
model. It is often used by community groups, and local health departments in partnership with
the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Sharma (2017, p. 35) states, “PATCH aims at

increasing the capacity of communities to plan, implement and evaluate community-based health
promotion programs.” Regarding the importance of the model, you explain that the PATCH
model has a critical strategy that builds an important link between universities, national
organizations, regional organizations, states and community health departments.
You further explain that to develop a sound health initiative in a third world nation, the
PATCH model is a significant approach to adopt for constructive changes. Health interventions
should be established using local capabilities through affordable, accessible and relevant
innovations. The potential for mutual learning and knowledge sharing can be the most useful
when focusing on community partnerships. For this reason, “Community engagement is an
integral and iterative process within the project that will deepen our understanding of . . . needs,
norms, and practices as well as inform the development of the intervention” (Bastien,
Hetherington, Hatfield, Kutz & Manyama, 2016, p. 27).
I concur with your argument that even though underdeveloped nations have scarce
resources, available support can be used to establish a health initiative. Numerous organizations
provide aid to underdeveloped countries to help increase clean water accessibility. You also
argued that the solution to accessing clean water would be found through education and
community involvement. In addition, the solution would bring a sense of accomplishment to the
community. The PATCH model has five distinct stages used in health program planning which
include: community mobilization, selection of health priorities, data collection and analysis,
evaluation and developing an intervention plan. Applying the PATCH model can certainly move
this community towards healthy, clean water.
