Compare and contrast the traditional adversarial orientation with the new partnership orientation of
interorganizational relationships.
When one think about interorganizational relationship characteristic in the traditional adversarial sense, this author’s
rst thought is “it’s a Dog-eat-dog world”. This is due to the notion that companies took on the market in a fashion as
they cannot depend on other organizations for its success with a high sense of competitiveness. The traditional
adversarial orientation aims to have low dependence.
On the other end of the spectrum, the new partnership orientation seeks to utilize other organizations to decrease
risks with the market through shared equity and coordination on ventures. Although, contracts under this orientation
tend to be longer than that of the traditional orientation, organizational leaders from the separate companies have an
enhance trust amongst parties and provide business assistance to one another outside the contracts in place. For
