Question 4.3
Objective
Finding three different types of research that may be appropriate to find
solutions on how to accommodate for a better guest experience and employee climate.
Introduction
In the question, it states that there have been guest complaints related to the
housekeeping and the attitude by the hotels employees. I will be writing about three
different research methods to find out why the complaints are happening as well as
how these things can be fixed so that guests will have a better experience staying in
the hotel.
Answering the Question
For a CEO and division chief to see what is happening within their organization
it helps to conduct research. It has to be a mix between qualitative, quantitative, and
fundamental research.
Making Research Decisions
“Qualitative research varies but assert that good qualitative research can
address real-life issues not amenable to quantitative research(Isaacs, 2016).
Qualitative research is a type of research that is conducted by getting written surveys,
it shows how a customer might feel after a stay at the hotel and by seeing guest
responses it gives the CEO and the division chief a better idea on where the problem
areas are and with that it gives them a starting point on how to better the stay for their
guests.
Quantitative research on the other hand deals with statistics, such as numbers,
this can include how many surveys did they get, what are the ratings of these surveys
with categories and rating scales from 0 to 10 with 0 being worst and 10 being best.
Such research methods give clarity on how likely a person will be returning to the
same hotel. “Quantitative research encompasses a range of methods concerned with
the systematic investigation of social phenomena, using statistical or numerical data.
Therefore, quantitative research involves measurement and assumes that the
phenomena under study can be measured(Watson, 2015).
Fundamental research is a type of research that gathers information for the
knowledge of the CEO and division chief, it is not something that they may act on but
it gives them more information on what is happening in the hotel, with all of the data
collected from the fundamental research method they can then apply the results from
this research together with the qualitative and quantitative research to find out why the
employee attitudes and housekeeping complaints are increasing in the hotel.
This kind of research has to be conducted not only on the guest site but also for
the employees. The upper management should create an internal climate survey that
can be filled out anonymously which in turn gives the upper management an idea on
why employees are not giving their best at the work place.
Conclusion
In my paper, I discussed the three different research styles, qualitative,
quantitative and fundamental research. These research methods should give the upper
management a better insight on why there are increased guest complaints about the
housekeeping and employee attitude. With surveys for guests as well as from the
employees the management should be able to find a solution to have more employee
involvement and happier hotel guests.
