MODULE 3 CASE STUDY 1
Question 1
In essence, a simplified definition of the concept and practice of ODO has been designed to
cover physical, long-term, and limiting limitations. However, the ODO definition does not
include mental or emotional elements of disorders as a handicap. Because of this, ODO's
meaning appeared to have been adapted as well as narrowed down from a Census in the United
States Census, that views the term ‘disability’ as being a loss of vision, loss of hearing, or a
condition that significantly interferes a person's ability to engage in one or more basic physical
tasks, such as having to walk, taking the stairs, lifting objects, or attempting to reach out to pick
up objects.
It is significant to note that ODO does acknowledge reducing the scope of the term "disability,"
particularly by omitting emotional as well as mental disabilities, even though these conditions
might not always be permanent and could still have debilitating impact on the welfare of a
person as well as capacity to function in community.
Question 2
The elements of ODD's study design are as follows:
Focus groups - ODO was using a focused group of thirteen (13) impaired people who have met
two times with the goal of identifying and elucidating important concerns in the appropriate
language. Because the focus group's accessibility, one benefit is the fact that researcher has
sufficient control as well as the flexibility over the group. With regards to the implications, a
very low representation of the target population may have a detrimental effect on the study's
general conclusions.
Questionnaire Design - ODO's study findings may be useful to businesses that handle or deal
with problems related to disabilities because ODO's main goal was to gain their support. ODO

made the decision to seek out representatives with sway as a result of the design of the survey
used for the study. For example, developing questionnaire survey on subjects of interest to senior
management of significant travel companies as well as locations, this was done to ensure that the
study findings proven to be simultaneously relevant and valuable to enterprises dealing in
disability affairs. Such a strategy was intended to guarantee that the findings of the ODO study
were pertinent and relevant to real-world circumstances. The study results might have been less
clear if the questionnaire's design had been approached from a greater perspective.
Interviews over the internet or by phone - ODO made the decision to use the telephone and
the internet media for communication in order to deal with the matter of accessibility for people
with disabilities. There was a consequence, though, in that it might be detrimental to individuals
who don't have access to telephone or internet communication platforms.
Question 3
The hybrid or double-modality method as described by Di Tria, Lefons, and Tangorra (2012)
refers to as the process of combining as well as merging a particular information-driven as well
as a requirement driven strategy. One benefit of employing the hybrid methodology is that it
offers the required chance for development through the introduction of new technologies from a
business perspective. The hybrid method was utilized in the ODO study to identify and analyze a
few of the travel requirements of people living with disabilities.
Question 4
Given a same background as that of Francie Turk, one of the familiarization techniques I might
employ is to become accustomed to the everyday routines of people with disabilities, particularly
in respect to traveling by plane or residing in specific locations that necessitate such travel. The
research study's research questions, however, would serve as my guide. Another approach might

be to engage in full conversation with airline passengers who are disabled in order to fully
comprehend their issues as well as experiences.
Because they are an essential source of knowledge as well as information on the impaired
community, I would try to get touch with individuals, experts, and institutions that aid and serve
people with disabilities. I would say that the study methodology created and applied by ODO
was mainly computerized. ODO would also have learned more if they had decided to broaden
their scope beyond businesses or firms that work with disabled people. To better understand the
struggles and experiences of disabled people, they may have reached out to other groups within
the disabled population.
Question 5
The idea as well as behavior of accommodating people with disabilities involves identifying and
developing techniques aimed at improving their functioning throughout their day-to-day
interactions with community. If the questions being asked of the responder are in the "yes" or
"no" format, the accommodation question can be covered in less than 10 minutes in a well-
planned telephone interview. When performing online surveys, conducting telephone interviews
is thought to be an appropriate strategy because it enables the researcher as well as respondents
to have a conversation.
Large elevators as well as hotel rooms are only a couple of the facilities that can be assessed for
use by people with disabilities in public areas. Restaurants that employ braille are more easily
accessible to those with disabilities, who only need a friend or family member to help them.
Question 6
Some of the questions that would guide the upcoming persons with Disabilities include the
following, the study of hospitality and travel;
MODULE 3 CASE STUDY 4
How to improve the experiences of customers with disabilities while traveling with
airlines as well as destinations?
How interactions between or among people with disabilities and the general public might
be improved in tourist destinations?
How can we standardize accommodations practices across the hospitality industry?
