Pure Flix, a Transformative Approach to Media 2
Abstract
Nowadays, the entertainment industry is plagued with content that is directly against family
nurturing values. It is no secret that most TV shows and movies now contain nudity, witchcraft,
or portray negative principles as socially acceptable. Divorce, affairs, and violence are just a few
examples of the principles being promoted as “normal” today. Given the nature of the corruption
being promoted on screens, enjoying a movie time with the family has become increasingly
challenging. I find myself googling reviews on shows and movies before watching them. Given
the need for cleaner streaming platforms, companies such as Pure Flix are highly desired by
people who seek to nurture their Godly values, such as myself. In addition, this company
exemplifies a responsible and purpose filled marketing strategy.

Pure Flix, now a joint venture with Great American, offers faith-based entertainment.
According to The Mission Founder, Pure Flix’s vision is “to influence the global culture for
Christ through media.” The Bible verse that comes to mind when reflecting on the impact that
Pure Flix is exerting on today’s society is Romans 12:2 KJV: “And be not conformed to this
world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good,
and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2 KJV. Instead of adopting the practices
that other streaming services have, where they focus on profit, regardless of the negative impact
their movies’ messages may have; Pure Flix has placed high priority on edifying people through
placing importance on their spiritual journey. According to their website, “Our members are why
you will always be able to turn to Great American Pure Flix for the best in quality entertainment
that celebrates faith, family, and country…”>In addition, through their membership, they support
connection among like-minded people. “The relatively narrow conceptualization of marketing as
a profit-maximization problem, focused on market transactions or a series of transactions, seems
increasingly out of touch with an emphasis on long-term customer relationships and the
formation and management of strategic alliances,” as stated by Frederick E. Webster, Jr. in his
article The Changing Role of Marketing in the Corporation. Pure Flix identified an area of pain
for Christians and people that want to have peace of mind about what their children watch, and
provided relief; thus, creating a loyal audience. They create long lasting relationships with their
costumers by listening to their needs and fulfilling them.
Pure Flix not only has understood the need for uplifting Godly values, but also the demand
for clean entertainment. The characters reflected in their services/products are as follows: content
with purpose, highlighting redemption and hope, among other values. Unlike secular movies,
they model family centered principles, such as healthy family dynamics, forgiveness, and love.

Faith is the core of people’s lives and families in their productions. “When our marketing efforts
are rooted in values, they carry weight and resonance that transcends mere marketing campaigns
– and instead become a reflection of our identity and mission as an organization and as followers
of Jesus.”>(Beyond Profit: Embracing Christian Values in Your Marketing Strategy). This
statement is a perfect illustration of what Pure Flix has achieved.
It is to be observed that Pure Flix has placed great emphasis on marketing management.
From its service to its representatives, the same values are presented, and they effectively
resonate with its customers. As Kotler states, “The task of marketing management is not simply
to build demand but rather to regulate the level, timing, and character of demand for the
organization's products in terms of its objectives at the time” (The Major Tasks of Marketing
Management). This quote makes me reflect on Romans 12:2 once again and if applied to Pure
Flix, it can be said that their objective of bringing people closer to God through media is in fact,
not conforming to this world by plastering sinful values on a screen, rather transforming the
media industry through the power of faith.
