PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES 3
Introduction
Developed by Carl Gustav Jung, Jung Typology Tests have helped many people around the world
understand their different personality types. Carl, a Swiss psychoanalyst described in his test how
various types of personality patterns existed in human beings and were built around four main
psychological functions. The four main functions that Carl believed these tests were built around
were intuited, feel, think and sense. Similarly, Jung's typology tests have facilitated comprehension
of not only how people behave but how their personality types impact behavior. According to Carl
Jung, the four categories that existed in human beings which were also referred to as dichotomies
included extraversion vs. introversion, sensing vs. intuition, thinking vs. feeling, and the fourth
preference which is judging vs. perceiving (Urhoj, 2021). Carl Jung also believed that there were
different types of personality types that affected human beings thereby including them in his Jung
typology model. The number of preferences was originally eight but rose to 16 after various
dichotomies were included.
The Jung typology test has hence been beneficial to human beings in many ways. Using this type
of typology test, it is possible for human beings to understand how their varying personalities could
impact their behavioral outcomes. Gaining such knowledge will also help understand some of the
advantages and setbacks faced by different types of personalities. Since human beings are social
organisms, understanding how various types of personality types impact communication will be
helpful in understanding how to live and relate with others (Urhoj, 2021). These personality types
also impact management and different team processes in institutions. Moreover, there is also the
scriptural rationale for differing personalities denoted in the Jung typology test. Individuals should
consider taking the Jung typology test which will help them understand how to relate to each other
PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES 4
and gain a better comprehension of themselves. This discussion hence offers an extensive analysis
of the Jung typology test and some of its inner frameworks relating to personality and behavior.
How does Scripture address personality differences
The Bible also has addressed the issue of personality differences in its texts. The Holy Book does
not offer a temperament description of these personality types but indicates how people have
different gifts bestowed to them by God. According to the bible, The Holy Spirit works in our
hearts based on the different types of gifts and needs. Besides, it offers several passages that
indicate how God thinks of the gifts human beings are offered. In the New International Version,
the book of 1 Peter 4:10-11 denotes how every Christian should use whatever type of gift given to
serve others. Christians are to conduct themselves in accordance with these teachings since they
are considered faithful servants of God. Besides, it notes that if anyone speaks they should consider
taking these actions like the one who speaks the true words of God. Moreover, the bible also
indicates that those people who decide to serve others for the sake of Christ should do so with the
effort and strength provided by God (Ochs, 2019). In all these things, God will be praised through
His son Jesus Christ.
1st Corinthians 12:8-10 in the English Standard Version also shows the bible’s views on the
different types of gifts provided by God. The scriptures indicate that others are given through
God’s Spirit the utterance of wisdom, others the utterance of faith, others gifts of healing by the
one Spirit, and others the gifts of healing. Others are also offered the gifts of speaking in different
tongues and others the ability to interpret these different tongues. These differences in gifts indicate
how not everyone is the same and that people can have varying gifts (Ochs, 2019). The gifts offered
to people from the Holy Spirit are also to be wholesomely used and shared to glorify God's name
and help spread His word.
PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES 5
Bible characters also exhibit different types of personalities. In both the New and Old Testaments,
various bible characters were shown to possess different abilities and personality types. The book
of Matthew 14:22-33 explains the story of Peter and how he was brash and impulsive like a
Sanguine. The bible describes Peter to speak and act without taking time to think of the potential
consequences that would accrue. However, Moses was seen as a melancholy personality. He was
always drawn to what was seeming right. In all his life, Moses is seen to be finest in all his
undertakings and worst at responding to various forms of conflict around him. Apostle Paul also
showcased a choleric personality. He always focused on his goal and worked tirelessly to achieve
his desires in accordance with the scriptures (Ochs, 2019). These indications all show how the
bible also indicates the existence of different personality types in human beings. These varying
personality types also tend to affect the behaviors of people and the environment around them.
How Personality Impacts Different Behaviors
Carl Jung believed that personality had a lot to do with how human beings reacted and behaved in
their environment. Personalities are traits that are relative to human beings and endure various
features that are different in people and influence their behaviors across several situations.
Different types of personality traits like extroversion, friendliness, introversion, honesty,
conscientiousness, and helpfulness have all been found to be shaping how human beings behave
and relate to their environment (Bairrada et al., 2018). Psychologists around the world have also
studied different types of traits and have acknowledged their impact on shaping behavior.
People with authoritarianism traits were noted by psychologists to express a cluster of traits like
toughness, superstition, exaggerated concerns about sexuality, and conventionalism. The same
people are more likely to display rigid behavioral patterns when in the company of friends or
family. Moreover, authoritarians are likely to conform to specific leaders and their demands,
PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES 6
besides being prejudiced. However, people with individualistic traits are always likely to focus on
themselves and how they could accomplish their personal goals. With individual collectivism,
these people are also likely to engage in behaviors that make them similar to others while
individualists would prefer behaviors that make them stand out from others (Bairrada et al., 2019).
People with an internal locus of control traits are also happier compared to those with an external
locus of control.
Personality traits also contributed to different behaviors self-conscious people tend to spend more
time preparing themselves to look and appear good in the midst of people. Those people who
showcased a high need for achievement were also noted to express their own behavioral patterns
as they selected tasks that were not very challenging to facilitate their success. Such differing
observations are enough proof of how different personalities could shape and contribute to
different behavioral outcomes in human beings.
Advantages of Different Personalities in a Workplace
Surrounding yourself with different personalities could be beneficial in several ways. Having
different personalities in a place challenges people to stretch themselves and get the best out of
their selves. People with different personalities also encourage others to try out new stuff and
attend more social events which could be beneficial in the long run. Having people with a different
perspectives in a place also encourages the development of new and unique perspectives that could
help improve the lives of these people. Different personalities help people develop better
communicative skills and improve their social relations (Jordan et al., 2018). Having friends or
close people with different personalities pushes their peers to develop improved communication
skills they will use to communicate.
PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES 7
Different personalities help individuals learn how to deal with conflict and help them comprehend
how to avoid such scenarios. Workplaces are often filled with several conflicts and differences
originating from beliefs and other systems. Having these different personalities in the workplace
pushes people to look for various ways they could use to improve their communication skills and
language to suit their fellow employees. Having people with different traits at the workplace also
facilitates the timely and effective completion of tasks in the organization. Businesses and other
organizations require different persons to fulfill their varying roles and require them to fit in well
like a puzzle for their plans to go as thought (Jordan et al., 2018). Different personality types like
risk takers and decision makers are to integrate well in the workplace to help their businesses
achieve the desired outcomes. Surviving one type of employee could be very severe and
challenging for businesses. Different personalities working together also contribute to a wider
perspective of solving business problems.
Disadvantages of Personality Differences in the Workplace
In the workplace, personality differences could also contribute to negative differences. Personality
differences could contribute to negative challenges if no proper measures are taken to ensure
employees understand how to integrate and live with each other successfully. Bad personality traits
in the organization will contribute to hatred among the employees since everyone will believe that
their traits are the correct ones. They will not want to accept faults and will often engage in battles.
Such workplaces will be affected by these negative personality differences since there will be no
order followed or rules adhered to (Jordan et al., 2018). The improper blending of personality
differences in the workplace could also contribute to a lack of proper organizational goals. The
corporate goals of businesses with employees with no proper blend of personality differences are
PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES 8
often affected and these institutions mostly end up unsuccessful. Such contributions may lead to
more harm than good for companies and workplaces.
Different personality traits in a workplace environment affect communication. Thinking of how
people communicate, one of the most essential factors that determine the outcome of these
processes is personality. Different personalities in a workplace may lead to several communication
challenges since there will be no blend of emotions. When communicating with peers, emotions
are clinical since they help in deciding how to relay information. People who are vocal and
assertive may tend to speak loudly and expect total attention in the workplace, a factor that may
affect how both parties relate. These differences affect the success of these workplaces and inhibit
the possibility of achieving a united task force. Research has found that an improper blend of these
two personalities may lead to hate and disunity in the workplace (Jordan et al., 2018). Businesses
suffering from such challenges tend to face low sales and improper competitive advantages.
Personality differences in the workplace can contribute to several challenges and more harm than
benefits for organizations.
How Personality Types Affect Communication
Different personality types also affect how communication is made between individuals. The
process of communication is very much dependent on personality and exposes how people with
various types of personalities communicate differently. People with assertive personality types
often tend to practice upward communication. When speaking to their peers, they are likely to try
and lead others and provide statements that try to prove their intentions (Hossain et al., 2020).
People with proactive types of personalities tend to communicate while looking for ways to solve
and arrive at solutions to their problems. They often look for ways to offer proactive changes and
use their time to help others solve their issues. Moreover, people with low self-esteem often depend
PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES 9
on the communication patterns of others and entrust their opinions. People with higher self-esteem
speak up boldly and address the issues they are faced with. The existence of these differences
indicates how personality types are important in communication.
In the workplace and other areas human beings interact, there exist variations to the extent to which
they modify and transform their behaviors from one situation to the next. Some individuals are
masters of behaving like chameleons, changing their habits from one behavior to another. Such
individuals are referred to as self-monitors. Self-monitors also reacted to their cultures more
adeptly. These individuals did not have many challenges living in their environment and adjusted
to the changes favorably. People who are considered low self-monitors find it easy to express
themselves in new environments and are not challenged in relating and blending with their peers.
These individuals are also social and relate well with others in their environment (Hossain et al.,
2020). These different personalities affect how people communicate and perceive themselves.
Workplaces that have people with no proper blend of personality differences could suffer from
weak communication patterns and inferior discharge of information.
How Personalities Affect Performance Management
Researchers indicate that personality differences also impact performance management in
organizations and workplaces. For these organizations to achieve successful performance
management systems, they should look for ways to blend their employees' personality differences.
Getting the right mix of personalities is important in improving performance management.
Organizations also require different types of employees to serve in various departments. People
with good communication skills can serve in marketing and customer service departments since
they have better approaches to engaging clients (Kawiana et al., 2018). Other employees if placed
in areas where their personality types match their departments may help their companies achieve
PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES 10
success. Organizations should thus understand how to blend their employees in order to facilitate
better decision-making processes and performance management systems.
Effective performance management in companies also depends on the types of teams present in
their workforce. To succeed in performance and proper employee management, businesses ought
to understand the significance of helping their teams perform better. Employees who are
assertive and self-confident could be used to arrive at organizational decisions dealing with
organizing and taking charge of projects. Employees that exhibit diplomatic personalities and are
often warm individuals who care about other people's feelings can be used to engage in client
communication and formulate business regulations that will favor everyone. Imaginative team
members who are ever curious about their activities can be added to innovative tenders that will
help their institutions achieve more competitive advantages in business (Kawiana et al., 2018).
Moreover, companies require employees who are often detailed-oriented and adhere to the
specified rules and guidelines properly without questioning. A blend of these personality types
contributes to improved organizational performance.
How Personalities Affect Team Processes
Different types of personality types could also affect organizational team processes. Successful
team processes are often undertaken by people with different types of personalities. Having a
team comprising of employees with different personalities may make team processes quicker
since it will be easy to arrive at the desired outcome and decisions. Team members with high
levels of emotional intelligence are likely to improve team processes by facilitating proper
strategies used to manage emotions and improve health communication (Chiu et al., 2021).
Proper management of emotions and successful healthy communication will improve team
processes positively. Employees exhibiting high levels of emotional intelligence also tend to
PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES 11
share strong senses of group identity which will be used to help improve the team processes and
outcomes of the results. Teams with personalities that seek to help each other succeed often are
in better positions to achieve competitive advantages and better team processes. Proper
management of personalities helps members account for different projects and work on ensuring
they succeed. In such scenarios, team members accept individual and mutual tasks that are set to
help their institutions arrive at better results.
The rationale for Different Personality Types
Having different types of personality traits is beneficial both in the biblical context and the
theoretical concepts. The scriptural rationale for different types of personalities indicates that it is
important for people to have these different gifts which should also be used in the service of all.
Despite not indicating much about personality types, the bible discusses the gifts of the Holy
Spirit which are bestowed upon people to help them spread the word of God. The bible also
denotes that no gift is better than the other and that it should be used to serve and honor God.
Creating different types of personalities is important in helping people understand and relate with
their peers. In the bible, the disciples had different personality traits but were all in a united
group. Having different personality traits is also important in ensuring human beings understand
how to live happily with each other and coexist in harmony.
Jung Typology Synthesis
The result from the typology test indicated that my typology type was (ESTJ) extraverted,
sensing, judging, and thinking. This personality type meant that I was extroverted and did not
feel shy communicating and engaging others in forms of communication. I was also open to
making friendships with people and engaging with them in open discussions. Besides, the trait
also described how sensing was important before thinking of how to make judgments.
PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES 12
My personality type could be very helpful in a health care organization. My extraversion trait
will help me easily develop communication patterns with patients and other clients who will
thereafter be free of telling me about their challenges (Baker, 2019). Sensing will also help in a
health care facility since I will be able to understand and relate the situation present with patients
to get a grasp of what they require and how to arrive at such decisions. Thinking will also be
beneficial since I will gain the desired understanding of how various processes are conducted and
how their results will be achieved. Judgment will also facilitate better arriving at decisions.
Conclusion
Human beings are social organisms and exhibit different forms of personality differences. Jung's
typology test is a good example of how human beings have various personalities. Besides,
biblical accounts also denote the existence of gifts of the Holy Spirit which are given to different
people. These gifts can only be possessed once per person and are to be used to help other
people. Individual personality behavior also has a huge impact on human beings and their
behavior. Depending on their personalities, human beings often behave differently in their
environment. Also, there are several benefits and challenges associated with different
personalities in the workplace. Understanding how these personalities blend and work with each
other is important in ensuring successful businesses. Moreover, personalities have been found to
have a great impact on how people communicate with each other and how they perform in their
organizations. Proper communication requires an effective blend of personality differences in the
workplace. However, the bible also denotes that the existence of these differing gifts and
personalities is important and should be used to glorify God. It is also important for human
beings to understand how to engage in practices that will promote better cohesion and living with
vy
PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES 13
each other well despite differences. My typology results will also be helpful in a health
organization since they will help improve patient outcomes.
