Hi Rebekah!
Job Well done on the assignment! I enjoyed what you shared
Introduction
There are many difficulties that one faces as a servant leader. Some can be within the
organization, some are external forces and some can be issues of the leader’s heart. There are
many practical ways that a leader can implement safeguards so that his/her desire for servant
leadership never dies. Your work shows just how this can take place!
What are the ways the need for recognition can stifle servant leadership/ What are the
ways that personal career advancement can stifle servant leadership?

Your response to these questions was wonderful! You shed light on something that should
be common knowledge, but I did not even think about this when I was doing my post! The
definition of pride is something that I believe many leaders should consider. I think it is so telling
that it is defined as having self-satisfaction (Merriam-Webster, 2024). This exact desire for self
satisfaction is what stifles the leader’s ability to be a servant leader, because that same
self-satisfaction takes over, leading down a path of self-serving. According to our text, a leader’s
ability to be an empath who empowers his/her followers creates an environment where
unstoppable growth takes place and strong relationships are built on trust (.). On the other hand,
growth is stunted when the self-absorbed leader seeks to control all circumstances. This is
because the individuals feel as though their leader will use them to achieve his/her goals and
does not desire to help the organization and others in it thrive while he/she is doing so; therefore,
trust is lost because their leader is not leading like Jesus, in love and humility. . We are given a
command in Matthew 20:25-8 to serve as Christ came to serve. This command is to be honored
and remembered in the heart of every servant leader at all times, because every individual is seen
and valued by God, so therefore; even in the workplace, his mouthpieces ought to make others
feel seen and valued (Blanchard 83-4).
In the midst of a busy life and daily schedule, what are some of the practical steps that you can
take to become a better servant leader?
Your response to this really sheds light on the secular world’s knowledge of servant
leadership! I am not one to lean on Forbes a lot, but I know it is reputable! Thank you for sharing
McHugh’s perspective on this matter! Being real is what builds trust and a culture of care deeper
than what it takes to make a smooth operation take place. I think that being the real self is
something that is undervalued because of the culture we live in! I am left with the questions “As

a Christian and a servant leader, how can one ensure that the stresses and demands of being a
leader do not interfere with his/her being their real self and Does that real self align with who
Jesus was as a leader? Hopefully our future classes in leadership will help us define more
clearly how our true self can be 100% aligned with Christ and how He led.
