SWOT ANALYSIS ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
The SWOT tool is an effective way to analyze an organization and/or one of its services or
products through the four elements of the tool: strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
This assignment will enable you to practice using the tool with a current healthcare organization
and demonstrate an understanding of how the tool is valuable for managers and leaders.
INSTRUCTIONS
Choose a health care organization, pharmaceutical company, or physician practice. Identify the
mission, vision, and values of the organization, and create a SWOT analysis for your chosen
organization. Your analysis must include a SWOT table, as well as a narrative addressing the
value of the SWOT tool for managers and leaders and explaining each box, with citations to
support your position. This assignment must be 1,000–1,200 words. Current APA format must
be used, and the paper must be supported by at least 3 scholarly references and 1 biblical
integration.
Note: Your assignments will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool. The tool
is a starting point for instructors to check overall Academic Integrity and higher scores generally
indicate a higher probability of Academic Misconduct. The higher a score the higher the
probability that there are too high a percentage of quotations included in the narrative, and/or
there are passages that have not been properly cited.

Pfizer SWOT analysis
Introduction
With its corporate headquarters in New York City, Pfizer Inc. is an American
pharmaceutical giant. It ranks among the biggest pharmaceutical corporations in the world and is
traded on the New York Stock Exchange. For a variety of medical specialties, including
immunology, cancer, cardiology, endocrinology, and neurology, the company develops and
produces medications and vaccines. Additionally, it manufactures consumer healthcare goods
such personal care items, over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, and dietary supplements. More
than 180 nations sell the company's goods.
The SWOT tool is an effective way to analyze an organization and its services or
products. This tool allows a manager or leader to gain insight into an organization's internal and
external environment and identify potential areas of strength, weakness, opportunity, or threat.
This paper will use the SWOT tool to analyze Pfizer Inc., a major pharmaceutical company. The
organization's mission, vision, and values will be identified, followed by a SWOT analysis of the
company. This will include a SWOT table and a narrative addressing the value of the SWOT tool
for managers and leaders, with citations to support the position.
Mission, Vision, And Values
Pfizer Inc’s mission is to use innovation to create a healthier world. They strive to bring
everyone quality healthcare and develop therapies that make a real difference in people’s lives.
Their vision is to use innovation to bring therapies to patients that improve their lives
(Comparably, 2023). Pfizer Inc’s values are courage, excellence, equity, and joy. Courage is
about taking risks and challenging convention, even in the face of uncertainty or adversity.
Excellence is about performing at their best and focusing on what matters. Equity ensures

everyone is seen, heard, and cared for, and it reduces health care disparities. Moreover, joy is

Pfizer is a leading global biopharmaceutical company that produces a wide range of
innovative products. With solid research and development capabilities and a strong financial

position, Pfizer is well-equipped to take on the highly competitive market and the regulatory
hindrances that come with it. Pfizer is well-positioned to capitalize on growth opportunities in
emerging markets, form strategic partnerships, and acquire new products. They have also
leveraged their global presence to reach more customers and increase product demand. However,
Pfizer faces several threats, including stringent government regulations, intense competition, and
patent expirations. Pfizer has had to invest heavily in drug development to remain competitive,
which has hurt its financial position (Anderson, 2022). Despite these challenges, Pfizer is still
well-positioned to capitalize on opportunities to drive growth and improve patients’ lives.
Pfizer's commitment to courage, excellence, equity, and joy helps them stay focused on
improving patients' lives and staying ahead of the competition.
The SWOT tool is a powerful tool for managers and leaders because it can help them
identify and analyze opportunities and threats in the external environment, as well as strengths
and weaknesses within their organization. It is a valuable framework for strategic planning,
market analysis, and decision-making and can provide critical insights into a company’s
competitive advantage (Gürel, 2017). The four parts of the SWOT tool are Strengths,
Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Strengths are the internal capabilities, resources, and
competitive advantages that a company possesses. These can include factors such as a strong
brand, experienced personnel, financial resources, patents, and access to technology. Identifying
a company’s strengths can provide an edge over the competition and help managers make better
decisions.
Weaknesses are the internal aspects of a company that prevent it from achieving its goals.
These can include factors such as an outdated production process, lack of resources, inadequate

marketing, or lack of innovation. Identifying a company’s weaknesses can help managers
identify areas that need improvement and focus their efforts on those areas. Opportunities are the
external aspects of a company that can be leveraged to its advantage. These can include factors
such as new markets, new technologies, customer needs, or emerging trends. Identifying a
company’s opportunities can help managers take advantage of new opportunities and capitalize
on them (Namugenyi et al., 2019).
Threats are the external aspects of a company that can hinder its success. These can
include factors such as competition, changing customer preferences, new regulations, or
economic downturns. Identifying a company’s threats can help managers anticipate and mitigate
potential risks. The SWOT tool is a powerful tool that can provide managers and leaders with
valuable insights into their company’s competitive advantage. It can help them identify and
analyze opportunities and threats in the external environment and their organization's strengths
and weaknesses. This can help them make better decisions, develop strategies, and exploit new
opportunities.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Pfizer Inc. is a major pharmaceutical company that strives to use
innovation to create a healthier world. By using the SWOT tool, managers and leaders can gain
insight into the company's internal and external environment and identify potential areas of
strength, weakness, opportunity, or threat. Pfizer has many strengths, such as leading global
biopharmaceutical status, strong research and development capabilities, a wide range of
innovative products, and a global presence. However, the company also faces threats such as
stringent government regulations, intense competition, and patent expirations. By understanding
and leveraging the strengths and weaknesses of the organization, as well as the opportunities and
Pfizer SWOT analysis 6
threats in the external environment, managers and leaders can make better decisions and develop
strategies to capitalize on new opportunities. The SWOT tool is a powerful tool that can provide
valuable insights into a company’s competitive advantage and help managers and leaders make
informed decisions. The Bible teaches us that wisdom and knowledge are essential in life
(Proverbs 16:16) and that we must be wise and discerning when making decisions (Proverbs
3:13-15). Using the SWOT analysis tool, managers and leaders can gain the wisdom and
knowledge needed to make informed decisions and develop strategies to capitalize on
opportunities and mitigate threats.
