The study sought to assess the factors that contribute to work related stress
among student nurses in Sagana Sub County hospital in Kirinyaga County. From the
findings, majority 82% of the respondents indicated that high workload contributed to
work related stress to a very great extent, 11% indicated to a great extent while 7%
indicated to a moderate great extent. Results indicated 75% of the respondents
indicated that increase in academic pressure indicated that it contributed to work
related stress to a very great extent, 21% indicated to a great extent, 2% indicated to a
less extent while 1% indicated to a moderate extent.
Findings indicated that 67% of the respondents indicated that lack of support
from the top management health officials contribute to work related stress, 32%
indicated to a great extent, while 1% indicated to a less extent. The results indicated
that experience long working hours contributed to work related stress among student
nurse in Sagana Sub County hospital in Kirinyaga County to a great extent as
indicated 73% of the respondents, 22% indicated to a very great extent, 5% indicated
to a moderate extent.
The results 62% of the respondents indicated that poor working conditions
contributed work related stress among student nurse in Sagana Sub County hospital in
Kirinyaga County to a great extent, 37% indicated to a great extent, 1% indicated to a
moderate extent. Results in table 4.8 indicated that 51% of the respondents indicated
that poor skill mix contributed work related stress among student nurse in Sagana Sub
County hospital in Kirinyaga County to a great extent to a very great extent, 37%
indicated to a great extent, 9% indicated to a moderate extent and 3% indicated to a
less extent.

This demonstrated that inadequate mix skills among the student nurses contribute
to alcohol taking and work related stress in Sagana Sub County hospital in Kirinyaga
County. Findings indicated that conflict with demand contributed work related stress
among student nurse in Sagana Sub County hospital in Kirinyaga County to a great
extent as indicated by 46% of the respondents, 38% of the respondents indicated by a
moderate extent, 16% indicated to a very great extent.
Results indicated that majority of the respondents 40% indicated that poor work
life balance contributed work related stress among student nurse in Sagana Sub County
hospital in Kirinyaga County to a moderate extent, 35% indicated great extent, 11% to a
very great extent, 7% indicated to a less extent while 2% indicated to a no extent. From
the results, 63% of the respondents indicated that lack of clarity of responsibilities
assigned contributed work related stress among student nurse in Sagana Sub County
hospital in Kirinyaga County to a very great extent, 32% of the respondents indicated to a
great extent while 5% indicated to a small extent. This clearly demonstrated that lack of
clarity of responsibilities assigned influence student taking of alcohol and contributed
work related stress among student nurse in Sagana Sub County hospital in Kirinyaga
County
