Ethic Issues in Information Technology
Information technology refers to the components responsible for storing, retrieving,
and data manipulation with the server through the operating system. The root of all security
systems is moral principles and the practices and professional standards of individuals in an
organization. People can be part of the solutions, but they can also have a significant role in
causing a problem. Due to the rapid progress of IT, it is essential to know security risks,
Privacy, and the significant negative impacts of IT. Identifying ethical challenges while
dealing with problems arising in the IT society is substantial.
Data privacy protection is one of the significant ethical issues in data information and
technology. Trust is essential if the user is to allow other individuals to access data from their
device. If one of the individuals the user allows to access violates the Privacy, they create a
risk that is a significant threat to the security. Confidentiality bleaches interrupt trust and
bring the risk of losing a deposit, indicating a disregard for the law and ethical violations.
Data privacy involves the freedom of the unauthorized individual to access private data, the
use of accessed data improperly, and the right to do inspection and updating of the correct
data.
Data protection is essential due to the ubiquity of technology triggers and rigorous
information environments. Data has several risks, including cyberterrorism, identity theft,
phishing, extortion, and information warfare (Fletcher, 2022). As a result of these risks, data
protection is a primary agenda in information and technology. Data protection is now a
significant information security role to assist in creating and implementing strategies to
guarantee policies on information privacy, principles, and appropriate standards are in place.
Besides, the regulations should be efficient, and information security should ensure everyone
complies. Privacy and data protection policies must be financially sound, efficient, and
ethically reliable.

Ethical Dilemma
Reynolds's seven-step approach incorporated in the mentioned ethical dilemma can be
essential in the decision-making strategy. The initial step of using data ethically is
understanding the privacy concern that is integral in the collection and development of data.
When a user applies the wrong information, Privacy can result in an organization incurring
huge losses even with the current endeavors to make cybersecurity more efficient and
creating highly effective gaps in Privacy. Information and technology have been experiencing
a rise in cyberattacks (Atlam & Wills, 2020). For information security to address the
cyberattack concerns from consumers, businesses should be ready to combat many data
security problems. Some of the challenges regarding data privacy include; offering protection
to the frequently rising variety of data, providing a secure environment to a range of devices,
and embedding Privacy of information.
However, it is also important to note that the privacy concerns in a market could have
drawn the influence of existing regulations in a particular market. An example is the
European Union, which maintains General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) (Fletcher,
2022). GDPR composes of guidelines that endorse transparency and information security
regarding any data within the EU. Disregarding protecting the client's information will
expose the customers' data to all forms of cyber-attacks. An ethical approach to data is
essential in improving the value to clients making sure not to involve their data in attack risk.
The process has to be in line with privacy regulations while making efforts to make
improvements in a hazardous digital market. Individuals can also apply ethical information
by incorporating moral codes in their data. Incorporating the ethical guidelines will ensure the
incorporation of the following principles in every decision-making: empathy, transparency,
equality, accountability, and data control. Suppose organizations and individuals maintain
applying data via observation of ethical principles. In that case, solving rising data privacy
4
concerns is possible. Businesses in the current society require clients to maintain trust, that is,
by ensuring an information management system (Atlam & Wills 2020). Applying Reynolds's
seven-step approach will ensure that the information is highly ethical.
Normative theories of business ethics are an appropriate theory in data privacy as an
ethical dilemma. According to this theory, the manager and the employees should be
accountable enough to use the company's resources in a way that will not result in
withdrawing the stallholders' benefit (Frischhut, 2019). Every organization manager and
employee is authorized to access the company's database information, such as the data
concerning their customers (Desjardins, 2019). Thus, every employee and manager is
responsible for protecting the company's information from cyberattacks. If the employee is
not accountable enough company's data may encounter a cyber-attack leading to loss of
information and property, which is a loss to the company.
Information security experts are putting effort into developing practical and sturdy
guidelines for creating data privacy protection guidelines. The reason behind their efforts is
the changes in the current technology and the surrounding environment that poses the stored
information a cyber-attack risk. Data privacy protection is a concern for information security.
Incorporating ethics in personal protection and other standard approaches in decision-making
will be essential in protecting the necessary data.
