Abstract
The paper will focus on three of the six levels of Bloom's Taxonomy concerning Servant
Leadership (SL). The paper will use the theoretically based methodology to show the
relationship between Servant Leadership and three levels of Bloom's Taxonomy. The three levels
of Bloom's Taxonomy will focus on our knowledge, comprehension, and application. Servant
Leadership is the kind of leadership style that goes past the innovator's circumstance so that
supporter needs are emphasized to set out open doors and assist individuals who are supporters
with personal development (Lan et al., 2021). A Servant leader's ways of behaving incorporate
offering support and sympathy to devotees, acting with genuineness and uprightness, and
empowering/creating devotees.
Keywords: Servant Leadership, Bloom's Taxonomy, Knowledge, Comprehension, application
3
Introduction
Bloom's Taxonomy level originally had six levels of hierarchy, namely: "knowledge,
comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation" (Agarwal, 2019). Later, scholars
revised the following levels: "remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and
Creating" (Agarwal, 2019). The first three levels this paper will focus on did not change meaning
after the revision. However, the names did change. Knowledge changed to remembering,
comprehension changed to understanding, and application changed to applying. This paper will
use the original names. Servant Leadership (SL) focuses on serving members through modesty,
realness, and acknowledgment instead of accomplishing objectives to work on an association's
primary concern or sticking to winning standards. Therefore, the paper will relate each of the
first three levels to SL based on the findings of the researched articles.
Relationship Between the Knowledge level and Servant Leadership
Strategic Leadership has one of a kind, and acute positive effects on subordinates, groups,
and associations have been accounted for already. According to Lan et al., positive
connections among servant leaders, group viability, and authoritative citizenship positively
impact ways of behaving (2021). SL satisfied subordinates' basic mental necessities, which, thus,
individuals produce positive work (Lan et al., 2021). SL is gainful for establishing a positive
authoritative climate. Speculations on SL demonstrate that servant leaders accomplish these
results because their style of administration engages and creates individuals by communicating
lowliness, legitimacy, and stewardship. The first level of Bloom's Taxonomy is knowledge which
involves recalling previously learned information (Agarwal, 2019). Based on Lan et al. findings
above, servant leadership involves communicating values (while serving subordinates). Hence, it
4
positively correlates with knowledge. A servant leader uses the knowledge level through
communication, which helps employees think of and remember information. However, there
were not many articles found that were written to show the connection between SL and
knowledge directly.
Relationship Between the comprehension level and Servant Leadership
At the comprehension level of Bloom's Taxonomy, a person shows an
understanding of ideas by interpreting and stating the main ideas (Agarwal, 2019). Servant
Leader's critical attention is on their supporters' turn of events. Therefore, they can quickly
address the issues of proactive individuals, as opposed to regarding them as a lower need.
Proactive individuals can, along these lines, acquire essential data and methods that assist them
with accomplishing their professional objectives from worker pioneers, as opposed to only broad
help and instruction that plan to help the association (Song et al., 2021-2022). Based on Song et
al. findings, a positive relationship exists between comprehension level and SL. As employees
acquire data from servant leaders, they can interpret it. However, it is crucial to note that Song et
al. state that it is proactive, primarily employees who obtain data from the Servant leaders. This
means that employees who are not proactive cannot obtain data from the leaders at the same
level as proactive employees. Therefore, only proactive employees positively relate to SL on the
comprehension level.
Relationship Between the Application Level and Servant Leadership
Application is the third level of Bloom's Taxonomy. Under the application level,
individuals resolve challenges by applying obtained understanding, details, and rules
distinctively (Agarwal, 2019). Workers are accessible to commit themselves entirely to their jobs
5
when they can adapt to different work and individual requests (Song et al., 2021-2022). Servant
leaders meet their worker's work and self-improvement needs by participating in coordinated
correspondence with members and making altered administrations to help their supporters and
professional objectives. Accordingly, workers can undoubtedly get primary data and help from
worker pioneers to help their particular requirements and further work commitment (Song et al.,
2021-2022). This shows that workers, in this case, can use the information they obtain and apply
it to their personal and work life. Therefore, Servant Leadership in this form positively relates to
Bloom's application level.
Biblical Perspective
The Bible in Psalms speaks of remembering the Lord's goodness. This directly relates to
the first level, which is knowledge (Psalm 103:2, 2008). Jesus is the perfect example of a Servant
Leader, and he did not forget God's goodness. He remembered whom God was even when
tempted by the devil in the wilderness (Matthew 4, 2008). The second level of Bloom's
taxonomy is perfect for any disciple of Jesus. Jesus' disciples cannot fully practice Christianity if
they do not understand God's word on an individual level. Jesus taught God's word with wisdom,
proving that he understood what he was teaching. Lastly, the level of application can be seen in
the book of James. James calls believers to be doers of God's word (James 1:22-25). A good
follower of Christ is a true Servant Leader and does what God's word command. Christian
servant leaders can apply God's word to their lives and use it to solve life challenges.
Conclusion
Although there were not enough recent articles specifically written to show the
relationship between Bloom's taxonomy levels and Servant Leadership, the relationship does
6
exist. The article's research and findings show a correlation between SL and the first three levels
of Bloom's taxonomy.

Annotated Bibliography
Lan, Y., Xia, Y., & Yang, L. (2021). Effects of servant leadership on the leader’s innovative
behavior. , (10), 1–13. Social Behavior and Personality: An International Journal 49
https://doi.org/10.2224/sbp.10782
The article utilized the self-assurance hypothesis and widened and-fabricate hypothesis.
The authors proposed a directed intercession structure in which the leader's feeling of
achievement would intercede the relationship between Servant Leadership's ways of
behaving and the innovator's inventive conduct. Results show that SL ways of behaving
in a way affected workers' inventive way of behaving using their feeling of achievement.
The article was informative, and it served a great purpose that the authors used different
sources to back their information.
Agarwal, P. K. (2019). Retrieval practice & Bloom’s taxonomy: Do students need fact \
knowledge before higher order learning? , Journal of Educational Psychology 111(2),
189–209. https://doi.org/10.1037/edu0000282.supp (Supplemental)
The article focused on developing students' higher-order learning as a critical component
of education. The authors stated that scholars and scientists continuously debated whether
higher-order learning can only be increased by building a base of factual knowledge
(corresponding to Bloom's taxonomy) or whether higher-order learning can be enhanced
directly by engaging in tough questioning and materials. The article was one of the few
8
that contained information on Bloom's taxonomy levels. It was not as satisfactory, but it
served the purpose intended for the paper.
Song, Y., Tian, Q., & Kwan, H. K. (2022;2021;). Servant leadership and employee voice: A
moderated mediation. Journal of Managerial Psychology, 37(1),
The initial purpose of the paper is the impact of Servant Leadership on workers’
promotive voice conduct and restrictive voice conduct by zeroing in on the intervening
job of occupation commitment and the directing job of proactive character. The article
was the best because it was easy to read and informative.
