Accounting and Finance are ideally the foundation for all of the production of numbers in a
business. Accounting is often considered the language of business, as the production of financial
statement, based upon a company’s transactions, shed light on a company’s financial situation.(pg.3
Hicks, M. & Hicks, S. 2014) On the other hand finance is built upon the foundation of accounting and
allows managers to make informed decisions with regard to the financial direction of the company.
(pg.27 Hicks, M. & Hicks, S. (2014) Faith from a biblical standpoint is a strong belief in God or having
strong religious feelings or beliefs based on spiritual apprehension. So how can biblical concepts that
we learn through faith relate to accounting and financial concepts in the business world.?
When people thing of accounting and finance they look at numbers and equations to get results.
When people think of faith from a biblical standpoint they look at religion and what people have strong
beliefs in. Accounting and finance relate to faith because God mandates us to work for the things he
created. Finance is a form of government of God’s creation. Stewardship is the fulfillment of God’s
mandate to fill the earth, subdue or govern it, work it, and care for it (Genesis 1:28-30,Genesis 2:15)
That being said, finance controls people in a way where people can control God’s Resources that he
created. God wants people to work for things and care for it so that people don’t take advantage of his
creation. Granted, people still take advantage of God’s creation but with accounting and finance that
can be controlled through business and trade.
God did not create a system of finance but people created it for God’s purposes. We must realize
that we can always contribute to God’s kingdom using our accounting skills.(STIRES, K. T. 2010) God
always has a purpose and if finance wasn’t meant to be created then what is the purpose for it? For
someone that doesn’t have faith in religion it would be hard to understand but everything was created
for a purpose ,through God. Yes people do sin and take advantage of people and God’s resources ,
which we would accept that as sinning but God left us with these choices. He left us with a choice to

live through him and through his purpose or to stray away from it. Faith, accounting and finance isn’t
forced , it is a way of life. People choose to belief in God and his purpose and people chose to govern
each other financially through business and trade.
Proverbs 21:20 says, "There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a
foolish man spendeth it up." Through the word of the bible we learn that a wise man saves up for a
rainy day. The way people save money is through accounting and finance. People learn how to save
based on their income and their expenditures. We learn how to take in account how much we spend and
how much we make throughout each day in order to control our resources.
Lets take a look at account, finance and its comparison to faith in another perspective. People
going into debt on a regular basis and that is a part of finance because some people don’t have enough
or cant control what they have and seek help and the rich feed of of that through money. The bible
teaches us not to fall into debt because we fall into a trap where the rich have control. The rich rules
over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender. (Proverbs 22:7) People take advantage
through finance because once a person borrows then people collect interest. You become a slave to the
lender because they control the persons finances. For example if a person lends 10 sheep to a person
but the agreement is that he gets 15 in return that is part of finance because its an exchange within
numbers.
It is difficult to understand because the bible teaches us that money is a very little thing and does
not buy our happiness. But God wants us to work and care for what he created so people must plan
financially and do it through good intentions. Since we exposed the misguided management and bad
business practices at the American Bible Society, the venerable charity has been shriveling.(Kellner, T.
2004).People are getting money hungry and not remembering that we are brothers and sisters. People
have to recognize that everything we possess is because of the creator himself. People get caught up in
material things and that is where they stray away from faith and what our purpose is in life which is to

live through God and what he gives people everyday.
In conclusion, we live through God and the creations God has given us. Fearing God, having Him
in our heart and constantly before our eyes, we shun all sin and evil. This is law enough. (Baden, J., &
Stroup, R. 1972)We need finance and accounting to work through Gods resources in the world.
