Abstract
This paper is developed after taking the Jung´s typology. The goal is to be able to reflect
and get introspective on your own personality type and how that specific type might fit within
the general workplace of a company. Based on the Jung´s typology exam, each letter from my
result has been explained and applied to my personal life. A general section of the personality
type as a whole was given. A deep review of my personal experience of taking the Jung´s
typology exam along with a deep insight in my personal attitudes, characteristics, and
experiences is provided. Empirical evidence and scholarly sources within five years of age
support the stances taken and statements made. The essay also, and in depth, answers the
questions of how a certain behavior can help you become better employee and what I have been
able to take away from personality exams and organizational behavior.
Keywords: ENFJ, Jung, organizational behavior, scholarly research.
PROJECT 1 3
Step 1
E-Extroverted (22%)
According to Jung, the first criterion would be Extraversion-Introversion. It signifies the
general attitude of a person. This criterion signifies the source of energy expression of a specific
person. While the source of energy of someone that is introverted comes from spending time
alone in their own external world, the source of energy of someone that counts with the extrovert
trait comes from the outside world. Extroverted people gain energy from social interactions,
constant engaging activities, and situations where there are chances to build or strengthen
relationships around others.
I would most definitely say that this result is very accurate. I am a very extroverted
person who loves and needs constant time with different people. I love harvesting and taking
care of all the relationships that I have built throughout the years. After a social gathering or
quality time, I usually feel more energized. In the professional aspect, I tend to be in positions
where my extraversion can be put to good use. For instance, I used to teach kids English while I
was back home in Colombia. I was also the manager of the entrepreneurial fair, where I
constantly had to deal with student, parents, and teacher’s needs.
N-Intuitive (16%)
The second criterion, Sensing- Intuition, is directly involved with a person´s
understanding of different situations. This trait represents how someone perceives the
information obtained from the daily events, activities, and experience gathered throughout the
day. In other words, Sensing means that the person believes that the information received is from
the external world; whereas Intuition, refers to the fact that the person believes that information
is from the internal-imaginative world. Sensing and Intuition are the two function of Perceiving.
PROJECT 1 4
I would most definitely say I am intuitive. I do tend to overthink and get in my head a lot
more than other people. While planning my intuition plays a huge part on how a set my plans for
the day. In the workplace, my intuition has definitely been important to me. That intuition has
helped me get to positions such as host at charity events. In addition, my intuition helps me to
build better relationship with groupmates in the workplace as it helps me disguise when to say
what, while being respectful. It helps me be more aware of my surroundings and the people
around me which I highly value.
F-Feeling (19%)
Prominent researchers Robert Barbato and Subhash Durlabhji note that
“Jung distinguished between perception and judgment and also suggested that there are two
modes of judging: thinking and feeling” (Budding Entrepeneurs 1989). The third criterion is
thinking feeling. In the previous one the information given is perceived; however, in this
criterion the information given is processed. Thinking refers to the fact that the person makes
decisions mainly based on logic and reasoning. On the other hand, Feeling entails making
decisions based on emotions or moods. Thinking and Feeling are the Two functions of Judging.
Feeling is the trait that I am most conflicted about within my personality. In fact, I am
able to say that feeling is both my blessing and my curse. I am an extremely emotional person,
often feeling more intensely than other people. The advantages that this characteristic has gotten
me is that it has taught me to have empathy; however, one big downfall of this trait is my ability
to properly accept criticism. In the workplace, this trait helps me as I can be a good listener and
put my best in every project I complete while not building a wall for the people around me. It has
gotten me to be able to apply my leadership skills in a very genuine relatable way. I do need to
PROJECT 1 5
constantly be careful of my feeling as it can sometimes get out of hand and can lead me to shut
down if my emotions are not controlled.
J-Judging (6%)
The fourth criterion is the direct reflection of how people implements the information
given to them through the day. A person that counts with the Judging trait tends to be a planner.
This person organizes his life events all the time and sticks to his or her plans. A person that
counts with the perceiving trait is open to more improvisation and spontaneity.
When I saw that my results said I had a judging personality, I did not quite know how to
react to that. After doing some research on the topic, I am able to say that like the other traits,
this was very precise and accurate about me. I am a big planner. I am not really spontaneous, and
I usually have a hard time when I do not stick to my plans. Spontaneity worries me as I tend to
overthink every scenario possible. In the workplace, this trait has been very favored among my
workers and bosses due to the fact that I am very detailed. This trait has helped me build trust
and be more efficient at the same time. Since I was little, I have been a planner, from when to
watch my shows to what to eat as my snack beforehand, I used to always plan my day. I
definitely differed from other kids in that aspect.
ENFJ as a whole
Ahmad Valikhani, Paul Mills, and Marzabadi Azad, groundbreaking researchers, note that
“individual’s positive and negative traits, associated with positive outcomes and called character
strengths in positive psychology, can, respectively, have considerable positive and negative
consequences”(Positive Personality 2017). ENFJ, also called the givers or the idealists are people
that tends to have extraordinary people abilities. The idealist type makes up for 15% of the entire
population. The primary mode of living for people with ENFJ is focused externally. The people
PROJECT 1 6
with this personality trait deal with situations or make decision based on how they feel about
them. The secondary mode of this personality trait is internal, ruled by intuition.
ENFJ’s are individuals that tend to revolve around people. Their people skills are
excellent. The main interest for ENFJ´s is to bring out love, support, and a great time for others.
They try to make people the best version of themselves. They excel at understanding, listening,
and encouraging other people. As a matter of fact, their people skills are so developed that people
with this specific personality trait can make people do exactly what they want them to do. While
the intentions of ENFJ´s are usually unselfish, unhealthy ENFJ´s can become master
manipulators.
Another characteristic about ENFJ´s is that they can find difficulty to spend time alone;
however, it is especially important for them to do so. The reason behind this is because people
with the ENFJ personality tend to be harsh on themselves and can turn to anxious or dark
thoughts. ENFJ’s tend to put people´s needs over their own. In fact, some people with this type
of personality might have a hard time realizing what they need. Consequently, sacrificing
themselves in their attempt to help other people.
In the workplace, ENFJ´s tend to do better in positions that involve dealing with people
constantly. They thrive in these positions due to their strong people skills. People with this
personality trait tends to know and say exactly what need to be said in order to achieve a goal or
objective. Social committees and counseling positions are especially good for them. A lot of
ENFJ’s tends to choose careers that involve a great degree of leadership and attention.
I truly believe that is not only an accurate description of the personality of an ENFJ, but
my personality. I can most definitely identify with every characteristic mentioned here. Taking
the Jung’s typology test definitely gave me a lot of insight on myself. It made me realize that the
PROJECT 1 7
ways I perceived information and react to situations, specifically on the workplace, are not
deliberate. It also made me be aware of my strengths and flaws so I can control myself better in a
professional environment.
Step 2
In general, what have you learned from these personality tests about organizational
behavior that will help you be a better employee, coworker, and/or manager?
I have learned that taking personality tests is of the utmost importance. Leaders within
companies must implement these assessments. Companies who use personality tests will thrive.
These will be the companies that will measure the strengths and weaknesses of their employees.
Researching and applying personality tests would let managers know how to control their
employees which is equally important. Being aware of how to deal with each type can
unprecedently help the work environment while enduing growth. Otto Kroger, and Janet
Theusen, authors of Type talk at work agrees with this idea as they note “Being a good leader is
not a matter of capitalizing on the strengths of one´s personal type; in fact, some of the most
remarkable people can get tipped up in leadership roles” (Type Talk at Work ). Test like this and
type watching can help people realize why are some aspects not working and what to do in order
to fix the problem.
I also learned that insights about organizational behavior will provide a more
personalized environment for leaders and followers. For instance, it can help leaders understand
how to get the most potential out of each worker equally. It can also let employees be aware on
how to be more effective. For example, feeling personalities tend to engage more on human
elements, and ultimately deciding the final outcomes. In other words, Feeling Leaders employ
subjective consideration (Type Talk at Work). While sensing leaders can be more grounded and
PROJECT 1 8
less flexible to consideration. Having insight on what type of personality your peer or boss is
exhibiting will ultimately help the company grow. These is, in general, why personality tests and
organizational behavior is important not only in the workplace but in life.
In particular, what have you learned about yourself from this personality test that
will help you be a better employee, coworker, and/or manager? Provide specific examples.
Thanks to the Jung’s test I have learned quite a lot about myself. I learned that I have the
ability to resonate and care about people. I have learned that I am a Feeling leader and are prone
to use Subjective thinking. I exercise powers through relationships, which makes sense given my
people skill and my extroverted trait. I was also able to acknowledge that people can perceive me
as a loyal and intentional individual. I was not able to notice this right away, but I remember that
while I was volunteering as a teacher in a charity, the kids got asked to describe me in one word.
Many kids used words as available, intentional, and lovable. Astonished, I asked a few
colleagues if they had planned as this as a surprise(overthinking). But my colleagues said, “That
is just how you are, we agree with the kids”. Now I understand why I was perceived like that.
I was also made aware that I can succeed at work positions that entail networking, being
vocal, and have me actively take actions. I have the ability to be quick at disclosing plans,
values, principles and views. One of the things learned that I need to be aware of is stated in the
Type at workbook. Kroeger et al, note that “NF´s are people of the people, to win someone’s
commitment is requires for a leader to relate to him personally” (Type Talk at Work). Getting too
personally involved and tending to put other needs over mine can lead to people taking
advantage of me. Thanks to this assessment I was able to take a look at my personality and
review how I can develop myself better on a group work/setting. Overall, I am extremely
grateful.
