Abstract
Looking at different personalities in the workplace, the Myers-Briggs personality assessment
illustrates how individuals process information, make decisions, govern everyday life and
approach things. Katherine Briggs expanded on Jung’s research. She developed the Myers-
Briggs assessment. I took the test. It was determined that I was classified as a ENJF. Kroeger in
his book Type Talk at Work dissects Katherine Briggs research. Applying Kroegers dissection to
myself is the bulk of this paper. I explore how I communicate and how others communicate with
me.

Project 1 Personality Assessment Report
The Myers-Briggs Personality Test details individual’s psychological traits through a
series of questions the test taker answers. Through this exam, each individual is given a four-
letter code. This code indicates the traits assessed by the Myers-Briggs Personality Test. The
letters in the code assign a dominant personality traits. The traits are based on how the test taker
conducts themselves with the world around them. The test revealed to me that I was an ENFJ.
After reading the description of the test I was not surprised. The description on the personality
fitted me to a tee. Per the website for the Myers-Briggs Personality Test, “ENFJs are people
focused individuals. They live in the world of people possibilities. More so than any other type,
they have excellent people skills (document from 2022).” Per the Keirsey temperaments, my
two-letter temperament was the NF’s, they are known as the idealists. Some of the characters
associated with was Lucy (caring) from Charlie Brown, the Tin Man from the wizard of OZ and
Slytherin because they are the idealist (Daniel, 2017).” Personality is “the combination of
relatively stable physical, behavioral, and mental characteristics that gives individuals their
unique identies (Kinicki, 2021).” In this paper, I explore my personality, how I communicate and
relate to others in my work and personal life.
E
Per Kroeger, an extravert enjoys people and the world surrounding them. They are
comfortable in most social setting. The saying the life of the party generally relates to them.
They learn easily, value knowledge and while absorbing sensations around them (Kroeger,
2002).

Personal Extravert Assessment
I can relate to the Extravert Assessment even though my percentage was 1 percent. I
seemed to be a chameleon able to move in and out of a room with ease. I can show myself or
blend in. My main skillset has always seemed in interacting with people. I have the charisma of
my father and the likability of my mother. But I long for quietness. I keep my office door shut at
work. I am able to get what I need out of people with a smile and cheerful disposition. In the past
I worked in customer service and I excelled at it. Moving to accounting, I am able to work easily
on the team. I, also am able to make things easier for others at work. Due to my 1 percent, the
test said it was marginal and I could be an introvert easily. Personally, I think I am an extravert
naturally but due to pass trauma I evolved into more of an introvert.
N
Intuitive personality types are able make determinations regarding others, their intentions
and motives through examinations of the person. Intuitive personality types are able to determine
outcomes of decision and are able to avoid poor decisions. One disadvantage of being an
intuitive personality type is the habit of farsightedness. Intuitive can plan to far ahead and miss
the problem right in front of them.
Personal Intuitive Assessment
My intuitive was at 12 percent. I am very new to my office. I quickly realize that the
person over me and that trains me is a narcissist. It should have been a red flag when she was
never included in the interview process. But I was idealistic. I avoid all conflict with her. I have
successfully dealt with a narcissist before. Lucky for me, she needs me to succeed. I found out
5
early on that training me is part of her advancement for a job she wants. Narcissist can be very
good workers and can manipulate people easily. They can be very high achievers. I am learning
quickly. I prayed and the guidance I have received from God is not to react and to ride this out.
This is not the way I usually handle things. My intuitive skills pretty much have become a
survival technique. A survival technique that is allowing me to function in waters that are
choppy.
F
The F or T subset of the ENFJ personality type is the method that decisions are made. A T
will think and based decisions on facts and thoughts instead of a feeling. I am a F. Feelers
generally based their decision on emotions and feelings. The thought process is completely
emotionally based. Per Kroeger, the F subset “consider a good decision one that takes others’
feelings into account .” And they “will overextend themselves meeting other people’s needs
(2002.)
Personal Feeling Assessment.
My Feeling was at 28 percent. I do base most of my decisions based on emotions. I took a
job in Indiana to be closer to my mother and grandmother. They are widows and I have never
married. I feel very close to both of them and I really do not want to be far from them. It was an
emotional decision that I do not regret. I would love to be working somewhere warmer. But
visiting and seeing my mother and grandmother every weekend is a boon to me. At work, I like
to take in account everyone’s feelings. But I enjoy accounting work because I do not have to
interact with people as much as I did in customer service. The needs of people can be extremely
6
draining and have a negative effect on me. I have a hard time not wanting to make people feel
better. Accounting allows me to work independently. But I am still part of a team that I work
with extremely well.
J
J is for judging. I am really kind of shocked by the traits for the J subset. This subset is
how one organizes their life. I was truly shocked by the first one. “Always waiting for others
who never seem to be on time (Kroeger, 2002).” Others were waking up and knowing your
schedule, not liking surprises in the day, and thriving on order.” It seems that the judging subset
is not judging per se. But having everything in order and enjoying the order of things.
Personal Assessment of Judging.
My J was at 25 percent. First, I am a horrible housekeeper. But everything in my house
has a place. I cannot get comfortable until it is in place. (I have decided in the next few months to
hire a cleaning service after I pay off a few bills). And I am always waiting on everyone to arrive.
They are always late. I have even started planning on them being late. This seems to ease my
anxiety. I am aware of my schedule at all times. I have the day planned and the week. Sunday, I
planned my outfits for the week. I hang them on a rack in my bathroom on a rack, so they are
ready. I also plan my meals for the week. The weekend is preparing for the week with shopping
and meal prepping. If I do not finish my tasks; life literally falls apart and it is a disaster for me.
At work, my schedule is planned out for the week before I even show upat work on Monday. If
things come up, I deal with so that my normal schedule is not affected. I even pad the schedule to
ensure my schedule is secured.

NF subset
Per Keirsey, the NFs “are concerned mostly with developing human potential, both in
themselves and others; are good at seeing possibilities (Daniel, 2017).” I relate with this
completely. In the past when I was in customer service, I was a manager. I enjoyed developing
my staff. I was able to move several people into a better job and better spots. I found great
satisfaction in advancing people. Keirsey classifies NFs as the idealist and the ENJF as the
teacher (Daniel, 2017). I found that I am often idealistic in my thinking. I believe what I am told
and I look forward to the future I am building. I enjoy training others.
Step 2
I found this paper eye opening but I also found the The Type of Talk at Work fascinating.
It detailed several interesting things and how different types of people communicate at work. Per
Kroeger, “It is important to remember that in type watching there are no absolutes and that
everything is relative. There are no good or bad types (2002).” The type watching is just a way to
help classify behaviors in individuals to better use their skills in business. The Thinking and
Feeling decision making subset are generally consider male or females classification. The
majority of men are thinkers and females are the feelers. Other trains of thought, group men and
women into certain roles based on gender. “Social role theory posits that beliefs about groups in
society (e.g., men and women) derive from experiences with group members in their typical
roles (Gupta et al. 2019).” When men are more feeling in decision making, they are considered
wimpy. When women are more of thinkers in decision-making, they are considered hard
(Kroeger, 2002). In the workplace, removing the connotations of female and male decision-
making would be beneficial. Gender roles are important in society but are often use to
8
discriminate in the workplace. Removing gender discrimination in the workplace would benefit
all with more equal pay and better advancement opportunities.
The Type of Talk at Work allows for a closer look at how communication occurs at work.
It has aided me in a few self-discoveries. I always arrive early for work and begin my work.
Discovering that this is a part of the judging personality subset and characteristic of my
personality is reassuring. Arriving late anywhere will cause me anxiety. I always felt that I was
weird. Discovering this is a natural part of personality helps me accept myself more.
Understanding that I plan my schedule out so well is not bizarre; but normal creates a bit of
balance with myself. I will use the personality traits I learned to communicate better in the office.
Conclusion
I have struggled with my career choices. I have been a correctional officer, mental health
worker and worker in customer service. I turned to accounting and I feel like I have come home.
There is order and a completion of tasks that I find satisfying. I do the same tasks at the same
time daily, weekly and monthly. I enjoy the schedule and the order. I also enjoy the independence
of completing my own work. The personality assessment with my ENJF traits and my NF subset
have revealed a lot about my choices and what future paths I would excel at. Later on I could
expand into teaching or training in accounting. The Myers-Briggs personality test have revealed
and answered much regarding my personality. As a Christian professional, I am reminded of
Jermiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord plans to prosper you and
not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.” God knew the different careers I would
travel through. He knew my strengths and weaknesses. Weaknesses that are now more
understandable and that can be used as strengths in communications with peers at work.
