Introduction
Climate change is an existential challenge that humanity as a whole has been facing for many
years. Even though climate skeptics are still denying the impacts of climate change on the
environment, they are real and undeniable, and they should be alarming to all inhabitants of the
planet. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration report in 2021 “the
combined*land and ocean temperature has increased at an average rate of*0.14 degrees
Fahrenheit (0.08 degrees*Celsius)*per decade since 1880” (Dahlman, 2023). In this essay, I will
discuss the impacts of climate change on the environment and on human beings health then
propose some possible solutions through technological innovations.
Human activities impacting the climate
There are plenty of human activities that are harmful to the environment, pullution, fossil fuels
and deforestation are just a few of them. Pollution thgough the emissions of corbon dioxide and
greenhouse gases are damaging the ozone layer which serves as a shield against dangeregrous
sun’s ultraviolet radiations. These raditious are so powerfful that they can be the leading cause of
wildfires. Next, deforestation is also a major problem that is caused by human demand for
certain goods and for agricultural. Because of the constant demand for lumber for building and
furnitures forest have been deforested for centuries leading to less rain in cerain areas of the
globe.
Major ecological effects associated with climate change
Climate change does have a huge impact of the sea level and the type of storm costal land get.
Due to climate change the Coral reef has been afffected thus receding nearby the shorelines
around the globe matter of fact, “Changes in storm patterns: leads to stronger and more frequent
storms that can cause the destruction of coral reefs” (National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration, 2015). Coral reefs are very important for coastal land and beaches because they
serve the role of barrieer blocking storms and water surges. Wihtout them, coast lands will be at
risk of rising of sea level. In addition, coral reefs also provide a habitat for fishes and other
animals in the ocean.
Human health concerns associated with climate change
The most important factor leading to the health concenrns associated with climaye change is the
abusive emission of cordbon dioxide from human daily activities. It cause human to develop
respiratory diseases like asthma. “It is suggested that the global asthma prevalence increase may
have been an early signal of anthropogenic climate change” (Shi-Zhou, 2020). In addition, air
pollution also may also cause lung cancer as the cells in human lungs have a higher potential to
grow to form tumours overtime after inahaling polluted air in the span of our lifetimes. “In
2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) International Agency for Research on
Cancer looked at all the available science and concluded that particulate matter causes
lung cancer” (American Lung Association, 2016). These particles are composed of chemical
compounds, dust particles and carboon emission from gas-powered vehicles and
power plants.
Alternative energy through technological innovation
Among the plethora of alternative energy technologies, ocean energy technology sounds very
promissing. t consists of transforming kinetic energy from ocean wave to produce electricity.
According to the National renewable Energy Laboratory, “all the marine energy we can access,
that power would equate to almost 60% of the United States' annual electricity needs” (National
renewable Energy Laboratory, n.d.). Mnay scientists consider this technology to be one of the
main providers of clean electricy for the future considering how powerful waves are on a
consistent basis. Another inovative tecnology is bladless wind turnbines. This is a new
renewabloe energy technology is harmless for bird and safe to live nearby compared
to its predecessor with the blade. It generates energy when wind blows around the
structure creating vortexes of pressure. This vortex then creates a mechanial energy
from the movement of the turbin into electricity.
Conclusion
In conclusion it is safe to reaffirm that human actions interfere with the climate whether we
believe it or not. Climate change is an alarming phenomenon that’s affecting our lives and
longevity and the lives of various organisms in our environment. There are many innovative
technologies that already exist, and some are still in development. It is then up to governments
are the world to raise the urgency in order to implement these technologies to reduce the
emissions of gas and chemicals harmful to mankind and its environment. If no actions are taken
in the near future, the earth will possibly see an increase of climate calamities.
