BIBL 360 DT: The Inerrancy of Scripture.
Inerrancy believes that the Bible is completely true and without error in everything, it
teaches. This includes the original manuscripts and any subsequent translations of the Bible.
Inerrancy is closely related to the doctrine of the inspiration of Scripture, which holds that the
Bible is the inspired word of God and is authoritative for faith and practice (Geisler & Nix,
2008). The biblical argument for inerrancy is because the Bible claims to be the very words of
God and, therefore, must be true. Paul tells Timothy that everything of Scriptures is inspired by
God and may be used to instruct, rebuke, correct, and educate in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).
(NIV). This passage indicates that God is the ultimate author of Scripture and that it is
authoritative, trustworthy, and without error.
The many fulfilled prophecies in the Bible also support inerrancy. The prophecies in
Scripture were fulfilled with remarkable accuracy and precision, which shows that the Bible is
indeed the inspired word of God and without error. For example, the prophet Isaiah predicted the
birthplace of Jesus (Isaiah 7:14), fulfilled when Jesus was born in Bethlehem (Matthew 2:1-6).
This shows that the Bible is reliable and can be trusted.
The doctrine of inerrancy is at the heart of our faith because it is essential to our
understanding of the Bible. Without inerrancy, we cannot be sure that we can trust the Bible as
the inspired word of God (Haas, 2020). Additionally, without inerrancy, we cannot be sure that
the Bible accurately portrays the character of God or that it contains reliable information about
the nature of the world and how we should live (DeYoung, 2019). Therefore, inerrancy is
essential to our faith and is a foundational belief of Christianity.
In conclusion, inerrancy believes that the Bible is completely true and without error in
everything, it teaches. The biblical argument for inerrancy is based on passages such as 2

Timothy 3:16 and fulfilled prophecies in Scripture. Additionally, the doctrine of inerrancy is at
the heart of our faith because it is essential to our understanding of the Bible and a foundational
belief of Christianity.
