9.32.6 Research Paper - Outline
Paper Topic: Jesus's crucifixion and the major events that led up to that.
Thesis Statement: Jesus shows us in his crucifixion that love is greater than death.
Introduction: Jesus lived a great life. But he died a tragic and painful death. Much can
be learned for the death of Jesus and the major events leading up to his life.
Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all
circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” This means that we must
blindly follow the word of God and listen to his commandment; for that is what faith is.
For some, it’s hard to visualize that God loved their creation so much that he sent his only
son to die for us. Hopefully, at the end of this, it will be easier for people to view Jesus's
crucifixion and the major events that led up to that. Jesus shows us in his crucifixion that
love is greater than death.
Paragraph 1: The events leading up to Jesus coming to save his people.
God’s people had gone astray. Not many followed the commandments and they had left the
promise land. God’s creation worships false gods and was just becoming more lost as the
days went on. God could only think of one thing to bring his people back to him. God
decided to send his only son, to live as one of us and die for us. He chooses Mary and
Joseph, who hadn’t even married yet, to birth and raise his son. Jesus was born in a stable
like any poor child of their time but was treated like the king he was. Everyone who saw him
that night knew he would grow to be the king he was destined to be.
Paragraph 2: Jesus’s life on earth
Jesus saved many people and performed many great miracles. He made the blind see and
heal the sick. Jesus gave his disciples many lessons and parables that they then passed to
people leaving one of the greatest legacies. While leaving one of the greatest legacies, Jesus
had to fight this evil, a snake. This snake was Satan and try as he might he could never defeat
Jesus. Jesus forgives people for giving into this snake and helps them find their way back. If
only his followers knew what he had planned.
Paragraph 3: Jesus’s crucifixion
Many people did not believe in Jesus, thought of him as a threat. The Romans then had Jesus
arrested and put on trial because he said he was the King of Jews. The Romans at the trail
said that they would free a murder to have Jesus killed. The Romans were masters at
execution and of torture. The Romans flogged Jesus with a cat of nine tails. A cat of nine tails
was one of the Romans favorite and most painful ways to torture. The cat of nine tails was
nine whips as one with nails, glass, and metal balls at the end. The metal balls caused the
whips to wrap around Jesus’s body. As the whips were pulled back they cut open his skin and
tore into his rib cage. After the flogging, they pushed a crown of thorns onto his head and
belittled him as the King of Jews. Jesus was then forced to carry his own cross (75 to 125
pounds). Jesus’s hands were tied to the cross so every time he tripped and fell he could not
catch himself. He carried the cross all the way to Golgotha, Place of the skull. He was then
hung to the cross by nails and crucified. Crucifixion comes from the Latin word Crucifix,
fixed to the cross. It was horribly painful and disgraceful style of death. In Luke 23:34 Jesus
said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Every time Jesus took
a breath he lifted himself up onto the nails and fell down causing the nails to tear through his
tendons in his wrist causing him to slowly bleed to death. Jesus spent six hours on the cross.
He was abandoned by everyone he loved and was left alone to die.
Conclusion:
Before Jesus died he said, “ ?” which means, My God, My God Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani
why have you forsaken me? As Jesus died an earthquake shook the earth. This earthquake
broke open the tombs of those who believed in Christ and brought them to life. Many do not
believe that Jesus died, they believe he just fainted. The Romans pierced his side with a
sword to make sure he was dead. Romans did not allow prisoners to be buried so his
followers had to beg for them to let Jesus be buried. His tomb was covered by a round stone,
which was weird for a Jewish tomb. With the stone being round it was easy to be rolled out
of the way when Jesus rose three days later. Matthew 28:6 says, “He is not here; he has risen,
just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.” Jesus rose just as he said he would.
After he found his disciples he told them to spread his word. With that, he returned to heaven
with the promise of returning. Jesus shows us in his crucifixion that love is greater than
death.
