1. “The Lord is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful
love and truth” (Cartwright et al., 2016, p. 39) I am sure of this, and it doesn't matter to
me if I screw up or sin; I am certain that God will still love me if I continue to have
confidence in him. I am convinced of this, and it doesn't matter to me if I mess up or sin.
2. “Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous
things have passed away (v. 4).” In the new creation, death will no longer hold any sway
over either the earth or the heavens, and everything will be made new and perfect in the
image of Christ.
3. “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” (Cartwright et al., 2016, p. 49) This fits
into my frame of mind because all people have is their word and if you lie all the time no
one will take anything you say as the truth.
4. “If you plan on making it your study Bible, then you should select a formal equivalence
or optimal equivalence translation.” (Cartwright et al., 2016, p. 64) When you devote
more time and effort to learning the lessons that are found in the most fundamental parts
of the Bible, you will find that it more closely aligns with the way that you prefer to be
educated.
Triangles
1. “Though some New Testament books would be debated for a time (books such as James,
2 Peter, 2 and 3 John, and Jude), there is ample evidence that the core of the New
Testament as we know it today was accepted as Scripture by the middle of the second
century.” (Cartwright et al., 2016, p. 54) There is no way for us to know for certain when
the events described in the Bible actually took place; all that we can do is center our lives
on the narratives contained in the Bible.
2. “all Scripture is inspired by God” (Cartwright et al., 2016, p. 52) I never gave much
thought to the question of who actually penned the Bible. I gave that some thinking, and
the only thing that came to mind was that the prophets and the people depicted in the
stories were the ones who wrote them down.
3. “I reserve the right to make the final decision. I deserve the right to make the final
decision” (Cartwright et al., 2016, p. 41) Even if I am aware that it is possible that I will
end up repeating the same thing, I discover that I do not have complete control.
Therefore, I need to be able to let God make the ultimate decision and follow his plan.
Circles
1. “Two questions were raised to help determine which books would be included in the
official list.” (Cartwright et al., 2016, p. 53) Why were some stories chosen over others if
the Bible was trying to explain the full story of God?
2. “In this new heaven and new earth, the brokenness of our world will be replaced with a
perfect heaven and earth.” (Cartwright et al., 2016, p. 45) How will this new world and
the people who will live on it be brought into the new creation when it is finally ready?

1. “For sin to be corrected in our lives, it will require an inner solution rather than just some
outward set of aids designed to help us not sin.” (Cartwright et al., 2016, p. 42)
