Courageous Faith
Overcoming Obstacles:
In this chapter it is discussed how the Bible and going to God are a road map for
overcoming life’s obstacles in one’s church, home, and family life. As stated, “The success or
failure of leadership shows up first in the home”. (Hindson, 2011). Leadership takes one further
than failure when overcoming an obstacle. For example, Jacob went through many failed
obstacles, even turning from God’s plan, before successfully turning himself and his family back
to God to overcome them. He listened to God when instructed to “get his family in order”.
(Hindson, 2011). In turn, “He finally became the leader that God wanted him to be”. (Hindson,
2011).
Becoming a Leader – No One Said It Would Be Easy:
“Everyone fails sooner or later” speaks volumes. (Hindson, 2011). Leading with courage
is God given, as proven with Moses. Moses tried to argue with God that he was not the right fit
to lead the people out of Egypt. Moses begged God to send someone else, “O Lord, please send
someone else to do it.” (Exodus 4:13). (Hindson, 2011). Moses eventually listened to God, and
was able to be a faithful leader. We will all fail at something, but will realize the importance of
the small things: God and family relationships. Being rooted in faith is what makes one a leader,
“That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love.”
(Ephesians 3:17).
No More Excuses:
Something that has always been stated in my household was “Whatever can go wrong,
will go wrong”! (Hindson, 2011). This chapter illustrates how everything that could have gone
wrong went wrong for Gideon and how fearful he truly was. Gideon overcame his fear, and
procrastination, and stopped questioning God, further acting on God’s command. Like Gideon,
God will see you through troubling times and situations. As state, “The Bible reminds us: “God
has not given us the spirit of fear: but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy
1:7, KJV)”. (Hindson, 2011). Don’t let fear make you hide from, or stop listening to God, put
your faith in Him and he will see you through.
Facing Your Weakness:
This chapter illustrates the struggles with temptation and how we all, including Samson
for example, have been victim. It is something that in society we are subject to. As stated, “One
reason we don’t deal with temptation more effectively is our refusal to admit we have a problem
with it”. (Hindson, 2011). The devil does not want us to deal with temptation, he wants us to give
in. As the Bible states, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee
from you”. (James 4:7). Temptation will be a war with the devil until the end of time, but being

devoted to studying scripture and prayer will help make one more prepared to handle a tempting
situation.
