BIBLE STUDY PROJECT: APPLICATION TEMPLATE
Passage: Acts 19:11-22
What points of application can be made using the “Four Questions for Application?” State and
explain 1 point of application for each of these four questions. Your explanation for each of these
points should be 1 paragraph (200-300 words) in length, clearly connected to a part of this
passage (by way of a verse quotation and/or citation), specific to this passage, and relevant.
1. The Question of Duty (226 Words)
Acts 19:11–22 demonstrates that Christians ought to declare their faith in an honest and
dependable manner, affirming that they are acting in the name of the Lord. They should
not pretend to be Christians under any pretext. The Seven Sons of Sceva were witnesses
to the consequences of unfaithfully pleading with the name of Jesus. "One day, the
malevolent spirit replied to them, 'Jesus and Paul are known to me; however, who are
you?” The man possessing the malevolent spirit then leapt upon them all and vanquished
them. "They fled the house naked and in great blood loss as a result of the severe beating
they received" (Acts 19:15-16). These individuals beheld the miraculous deeds that Paul
performed while proclaiming Jesus' name. When a demonic spirit attempted to do the
same under false pretenses, it demonstrated that it could not be duped by an individual
who did not walk with Jesus. When we sincerely endeavor to serve God, He grants us
victory and triumph; however, if our motivations are nefarious, He swiftly annihilates our
BIBL 104
efforts. It is common for Christians to declare that they follow Jesus and believe in him in
the modern world, but the influences of the modern world can cause this path to stray. It
is crucial that we consistently recognize when we are veering off course and adjust our
course accordingly.
2. The Question of Character (252 Words)
Paul demonstrated the ability to accomplish extraordinary acts and facilitate healings by
virtue of his steadfast devotion to God. According to the biblical account in Acts 19:11-
12, “Paul was a conduit for divine intervention, as he performed remarkable miracles
under the influence of God.” These miracles were of such magnitude that mere contact
with handkerchiefs and aprons that had come into contact with Paul resulted in the
healing of the infirm and the expulsion of evil spirits from afflicted individuals. The
chapter conveys the importance of adopting a genuine commitment to Christ as a means
of achieving the objectives that have been established. This phenomenon is also evident
in other passages of religious texts, such as Psalm 37:4, which states, "Find pleasure in
the Lord, and he will grant you the aspirations of your heart." When individuals are
capable of leading their lives in a manner that aligns with the principles and values
upheld by God, while simultaneously providing guidance and assistance to others who
are experiencing difficulties, afflictions, or ailments, irrespective of their religious beliefs,
they may really establish a profound connection with the divine entity. It is crucial to
always have in mind the imperative of not compromising one's religion for the sake of
assisting others, since this is the modus operandi through which Satan and sin infiltrate
one's existence. Examine the given scenario and use one's understanding of religious
BIBL 104
beliefs to ascertain the appropriate instances for providing assistance, as well as
discerning the suitable occasions for engaging with advertisements.
3. The Question of Goals (247 Words)
In this section, Paul exemplified a modest existence while also providing healing to
others with whom he interacted. The individual in question shown a lack of worry over
the eventual result or potential consequences for himself. Instead, his primary focus was
directed towards the welfare and spiritual deliverance of his fellow human beings. This
aligns precisely with my aspiration to lead a life dedicated to the healthcare profession,
providing assistance to those who may be experiencing one of the most arduous and
demanding periods of their existence. Experiencing the opportunity to establish a
connection with an individual, impart my religious beliefs, and demonstrate the
benevolence and mercy inherent in the divine being would undoubtedly provide profound
satisfaction. One approach to navigate life with a feeling of reverence and appreciation
for the trials we face on a daily basis is by recognizing that God has a predetermined
course of action, even if it seems incomprehensible at now. I want to assume the role of a
mentor, offering guidance to individuals, with the aim of demonstrating that the human
experience is not only defined by suffering. Rather, I intend to emphasize the enduring
presence of a higher power, assuring individuals that divine providence will consistently
provide the necessary provisions. It is imperative to consider the pursuit of a life
characterized by selfless love for one's fellow human beings and the provision of
guidance towards a more Christian way of life, particularly in the context of addressing
their healthcare need.

4. The Question of Discernment
"Discernment refers to the meticulous process of making precise distinctions in our
cognitive evaluation of truth. Put simply, having the capacity to think critically is
equivalent to having the ability to think in accordance with biblical principles”
(MacArthur, 2022). Put simply, thinking with discernment refers to the capacity to
distinguish between truth and falsehood, or between right and evil. The malevolent
entity demonstrated its astuteness by confronting the Seven Sons of Sceva and exposing
their deceitful assertions of exorcising spirits, a practice akin to that of Paul, in the name
of Jesus. The spirits had the discernment to distinguish between the veracity of Paul's
words, which were imbued with divine potency, and the deceitful intentions of the
exorcists' endeavors. To maintain a Christian perspective, it is crucial for adherents of
Christ to possess the ability to discern truth from sin, which seeks to divert us from our
righteous path. There are several manifestations of this phenomenon in our contemporary
society. According to Romans 12:2, “it is advised not to adhere to the norms and
behaviors of society, but rather to undergo a profound change by refreshing and
revitalizing one's thoughts.” Subsequently, you will have the capacity to examine and
endorse the nature of God's intentions—his virtuous, agreeable, and flawless intentions.
