DISCUSSION ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a
thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. The student will complete 4
Discussions in this course. The student will post one thread of at least 450 words by 11:59 p.m.
(ET) on Thursday of the assigned Module: Week. The student must then post 2 replies of at least
250 words each by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of the assigned Module: Week. The student is
required to support the content of both their thread and response posts with direct, specific, and
properly cited quotations from the assigned textbook reading.
With each word being worth 10 cents, write four $12 summaries of the reading from any four of
the following chapters in Courageous Faith:
•
Chapter 2 – Overcoming Obstacles
•
Chapter 3 – When Dreams and Heroes Die
•
Chapter 4 – Becoming a Leader
•
Chapter 6 – No More Excuses
•
Chapter 8 – Facing Your Weaknesses
•
Chapter 9 – Reaching Out to Others
•
Chapter 10 – Realizing Your Goals
•
Chapter 12 – Standing Up for What You Believe
This means that in this assignment you are developing four summaries of 120 words each (one
for each of the four chapters you selected). You should aim to create four summaries where each
summary is between 100-120 words. Each of your summaries should not exceed the 120-word or
$12 limit. Be sure to include at least one quote from the chapter in each summary. For an
example of this type of thread, please see the provided example.
Chapter 2 – Overcoming Obstacles
“God can certainly bless the efforts of believing mothers, and He often does. But His ideal plan
is to work through both parents, with the man taking the spiritual leadership. And with the
privilege of leadership comes the responsibility of leadership. (1Hindson, Chattanooga, TN: AMG,
2011).” Isaac and Rebeka had favorite sons. Rebeka was not allowing God to work through both
parents. Esau didn’t value the blessing and Jacob did. Jacob deceived his father and took the
blessing, deception followed throughout Jacob’s life. Jacob means deceiver or supplanter, so God
changed his name to Israel which means “'God Contended', 'Wrestles with God'.”

Chapter 4 – Becoming a Leader
“Failure is especially hard on leaders. We don’t want to fail. In fact, we fear failure because
we’ve seen what it does to people (2Hindson, Chattanooga, TN: AMG, 2011).” Moses was
pulled out of what they were throwing the babies in, the Nile. Moses was a murderer on the run
for 40 years. But when God called Him, God prepared Him, and He set his people free through a
great leader Moses. It doesn’t matter what your background is, God can make you a leader and
use your background to do it. Background will determine your future. Do not despise failure,
learn from failure.

“Gideon started out in bad shape. When the Lord first found him, he was hiding in a winepress.
(
3
Hindson, Chattanooga, TN: AMG, 2011).” Gideon still doubted God after the Lord spoke to him
in person. He doubted God at every point in his life. He was a coward, and he kept asking for
signs. The angel of the Lord made fire come from a rock and consume his offering. Gideon said,
“I am going to die, I am going to die”. Wet and dry fleece. God took the most unlikely person
imaginable, touched his life, and enabled him to win one of the greatest battles in history. It
took several signs for Gideon to fully trust God.

“Everybody wants to be loved. By nature, people crave acceptance, and they fear rejection.
Nobody wants to be rejected. In fact, some people spend an entire lifetime in the pursuit of
acceptance. They seek it in business, academics, athletics, and romance. Some people are so
hungry for love and acceptance that they will pay any price to get it ([1] Chattanooga, TN: AMG,
2011).” Jephthah was a mighty warrior. Rejected by his family, but sent for to fight when they
needed him. Down inside his heart, he longed for acceptance. He had great faith in God. He had
to overcome great personal limitations and difficulties.

Chapter 8 – Facing Your Weaknesses
The Bible reminds us: “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man” (1
Corinthians 10:13). You’re not the only one struggling with temptation. We all face it! For some,
it is a daily struggle. For others, it’s an occasional battle. But for all of us, the battle is a reality of
life (3 Hindson, Chattanooga, TN: AMG, 2011).” The strongest man to ever live came from the
weakest tribe. But his strength, an outward calling of God on his life. His weakness was pleasure.
His lust, pride, and selfishness would become his downfall. He was a nazirite from birth. He was
a compromiser his whole life. He finished well but it costs him his life.
