CASE ASSIGNMENT 1 2
Describe the sampling strategy. How appropriate were the various sampling design
decisions?
Simple strategy allows the observer to collect data at the exploratory stage and during this
stage of data collection, ensure that the observer is focusing on their targeted audience or
population group. Nevertheless, before one is able to get to this exploratory stage, the observer
must first be able to identify for themselves the who’s or what that should be measured. Take
for instance the NCRCC organization that hired the McMahon Group because they wanted
assistance in creating a strategy plan for membership retention and new membership. One of
the first thing that was instrumental that the McMahon Group did as a simple strategy, as to
conducted several focus groups for NCRCC. In order for the focus group to be successful,
McMahon Group also used what is called Sampling Frame. Sampling frame is “the list of cases
in the target population from which the sample is actually drawn.” Schindler, P.S. (2019) for
the study to be successful, McMahon Group used sampling frame method to gather current
club members, non-club members and employees to partake in the study groups. Based on the
information that were collected from the focus groups, McMahon Group was able to formulate
a simple strategy surveys that was used to gather the necessary information that was needed.
The 1,650 survey that was mailed out, were sent to a specific target population where the
intended surveyors were able to answer the questionnaire and mail it back.
According to an online publication, “monitoring data are essential for the application of
adaptive management…and decision-making process.” Pavlacky, (2017). The sole purpose of
the survey was to see what NCRCC has to do in order recruit new members to the club, as well
as retain the current ones. Though the survey was a success, it did have some missing
information that could have been useful. McMahon focus was not heavily on younger
CASE ASSIGNMENT 1 3
members, which could have also been a much bigger focal point but instead, they generalize
the younger members into all age groups. During the review of the survey, the survey revealed
that 19% were under the age 46, while 81% were 46 and older. their target population should
have been the members and their families which belong to the age group of below 46 years.
What, if any, problems did you find with the questionnaire as a whole?
The questionnaire the McMahon Group sent out was very effective despite the lack of focus on
the younger members, but overall the survey was successful and straightforward in getting
NCRCC the information that was needed to retain and gain members. according to the
information that was received back on the survey, it was evident that the instructions on the
survey were very clear. As a way to save on time, my suggestion would have been to set up a
survey boxes throughout the club where current members are able to fill out the survey on the
spot as a way to expedite the information gathering process. In an online publication on
humanitarian crises, “health information systems are often lacking and surveys are a valuable
tool to assess the health needs of affected populations.” Robinson, E. (2019) Like anything that
is needing an overall where it can be make batter for use, often is able to do so with the help of
surveys. “Due to McMahon’s extensive consulting and research experience with golf facilities
nationwide, it was able to compare NCRCC’s membership survey results with those of
members of 80 other country clubs.” Schindler, P.S. (2019) NCRCC saving grace was
McMahon because they knew how to utilize the info that was presented back to them.
The information that was sent back in could have been more detailed surrounding other option
for both current members and non-member. Nevertheless, the survey worked out and NCRCC

is able to use that information to retain its current members while recruiting new members as
well. Once NCRCC is able to follow all of the instruction that was presented to them by
McMahon, then they will continue to we a positive growth in membership.
