Abstract
Tommy Takem has at the heart of all the questions he is bringing to you for your advice,
a question of ethics and morals. His practices seem to be rooted in a greedy desire for success no
matter what the cost. This paper explores the laws protecting the consumer, ethics in business
practices and the shelter principle of the holder in due course doctrine. It explores not only
scholarly teachings, but also the Word of God and how we should respond to those who are less
fortunate. It explores how we should use ethics and Christian morals to guide us as we endeavor
to be successful in business.

Tommy Takem owns a company that participates in what might appear to some to be a
very profitable business. He is a successful business man who owns a small business in a rural
community. To many, he can be looked at as a model for what America is all about. The
American dream is to work hard on something that you can call your own and become a success.
He not only provides a services to his customers that many would likely not have without his
business, but he provides employment for a community that needs small business owners to
