I attended Kevin Burn’s Series Lecture on Friday, September 25. This lecture was at 3 in
the afternoon. Immediately after entering the classroom, I noticed that the screen read
“selective seating”. I laughed at this comment on the screen. Throughout the process of seating,
the attendants didn’t allow the students to choose where they sat. I was placed in a seat in the
back, and was never given the choice to decide. This began the lecture with a bad first
impression. However, Kevin Burns started strong with statistics of students with business
majors. This was extremely intriguing to me because this showed the percentages of
unemployment of median income for college graduates. The lecture consisted of WPC business
students. After hearing about the lecture, I heard that Kevin Burns hits home with dignity and
ambition. This was very accurate. Burns explained that in order to beat the statistics, you need
ambition to succeed and graduate from W.P. Carey.
The lecture taught me that I need to take advantage of my time here, and make sure to
persevere through my present classes and future classes. Kevin Burns gave me motivation to try
harder in class and he reminded me that college isn’t all about the amount of fun we can have
here. Instead, we must remember to do great in school and have fun during off time. I
appreciate W.P. Carey for assigning this lecture to me, because I feel this left an impact on my
present and future self.
