My Story #2
I consider family to be the most essential unit for any human being. I always persist in
this because I have seen how mine has come through from a young age to the point that I am
now an adult. Growing up as a child in our family, my childhood was characterized by laughter
and chaos. I was the child who could undertake experiments and get away with them.
Considering that I was the last born, my dad was always rooting for me to succeed in all my
endeavours from a young age. Therefore, I grew up knowing that I was the best and always
strived to make my parents proud. My older sister was more of the responsible sibling that we
had. She could take care of myself and my older brother in the absence of our parents. Back then,
I did not get along with her because I thought she did not mean the best for myself. How come
my dad would let me get away with things, but she could not? I always asked myself.
Later, she joined a boarding school to further her studies and that is when I knew that her
presence was quite essential not only for myself but for the whole family. She could take up
certain roles within the family hence, make things work out seamlessly when our parents were
not around. There were several occasions that my brother and I messed up. In some cases broke
utensils and other materials within the house, which led to us being punished by our parents.
Every holiday she came from school, she could carry some thing for me and my brother.
Growing up now, I have come to appreciate the little things that she used to do to us.
Right now, she has her own family, and as an adult, I take my time to often visit her. I see a lot of
my mother in her because she has grown to be the glue that holds everything together. My
parents get really excited when we get to visit them in our home and we do this as often as we
can. By brother, on the other hand, has been immersed into football and sports in general to the
extent that he barely has time for himself. As an adult, I have really come to appreciate the
essence of family, and one day, I would like to create one big family.
