Anxiety
Panic Disorder- this is a form of anxiety when fear arises frequently with no certain cause. As
seen in the video large social crowds are a trigger for people with panic disorders. They often
feel as if everyone around them can sense and see their fear. Symptoms include feeling
restless, fatigued, irritable, and difÏculty concentrating.
OCD Video- Obsessive compulsive disorder is perfectly represented in this movie clip. The man
has to lock his doors 5 times over and count as he does it, so he is sure its locked. He turns on
the light switch 5 times over and counts while he does it. He also has a cabinet full of bars of
soap, never reusing one and throwing it away when he is done. He actually used 2 bars of soap
just to wash his hands once because he believed it was already too dirty to finish washing his
hands. This effects more than 1 million Americans each year. I would say this would be the
easiest disorder to manage compared to the others in the list.
Mood Disorders
Depression- is the feeling of severe dejection or self-doubt. Some people can be depressed in
the moment but not have the disorder, to have depression the feeling must last for over 2
weeks. Over 20 million Americans suffer from depression. Symptoms include anxiety, sadness,
anger, and loss of interest in activities.
Bipolar Video- Bipolar depression is having sudden mood changes at the snap of a finger and
over 7 million Americans suffer from this disorder. The manic stage is a full emotional
breakdown and depression is just the opposite. The video explains how the amygdala is the
emotional part of the brain and the frontal lobe is the judgement side. My sister has bipolar
syndrome and it makes her life much more difÏcult with sudden mood changes throughout the
day.
Personality Disorders
Antisocial Personality Disorder- People with this disorder are formerly known as psychopaths.
They are manipulative, and are very good actors. They also are deceiving and lack any form of a
conscious. It’s a more common theme in men and not woman. Symptoms include hostility,
irresponsibility, and impulsive actions. More than 200,000 people suffer from this disorder
every year.
Borderline Personality Disorder Video- Mostly prevalent in woman, this disorder is based on
impulsive reactions, unstable moods, and chaotic relationships. The video describes the feelings
as expressive bouts of anger, anxiety, and depression that lasts no more than a day. The
distortion in feelings can make a major effect on their life and loved ones, impacting everything
essentially. This would be a difÏcult disorder to overcome and live a normal life with.
Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia- this disorder affects a person’s ability to think, feel, and behave clearly.
Thoughts and experiences feel slightly out of touch with reality and causes decreased
participation in social activities. Treatment includes a list of medications and psychotherapy.
Symptoms include social isolation, agitation, and repetitive movements like twirling your hair.
Schizophrenia Video- In this video Gerald feels as if he was called to this meeting because they
wanted to kill or torture him. He describes everyone as if they are out to get him and have
some sort of anger against him. His thinking is disorganized and can’t keep his thoughts
connected, and has formed delusional ideas. He is visibly paranoid and you can see his mood
changes in the video. This disorder effects over 15 million people worldwide. This would be one
of the toughest disorders from the list because it changes all of your thinking and social actions.
