In addition to Hitler’s charisma, many national socialist features attracted Germans into
supporting him. One national socialist trope that attracted Germans was Hitler’s bureaucratic
approach to leadership. The civil servants under Hitler’s government regarded the state as a
business endeavor. As a result, they aimed to run it efficiently and expeditiously. The
bureaucratic approach was more concerned with success than rights and social justice. They
followed consequentialist principles and were willing to do anything to guarantee success. For
instance, Hitler submerged a significant portion of the civil service in the party, positioning
middle and lower civil servants in key positions.
Another national socialist trope that attracted Germans was Hitler’s nationalistic
principles. National socialists believed that the existence of all classes and people threatened the
national order and arrangement of political powers. Specifically, national socialists in Germany
believed that the coexistence of different races resulted in the racial-biological decay of the
Nordic man. As a result, Hitler and other national socialists advocated for racial superiority of
the Nordic man. Many believed it was against the divine justice for systems to protect the weak
from the strong. These principles appealed to many Germans.
These attractions are still employed in today’s politics and leadership. Although
democracy remains the cornerstone of today’s leadership, many still believe in business-like
leadership. This principle attracted many Americans into voting for Trump in 2016 because he
promised to run the country as a business. Success is more important than all other aspects of
democracy. Similarly, many political decisions support the idea of racial supremacy.
Nationalistic sentiments encouraged Trump to exit from the Paris Agreement in his attempt to
prioritize American interests. Anti-immigration policies in most Western countries reflect the

idea of racial supremacy. Therefore, some national socialist principles appeal to many people
today.
