Syllabus information:
iClicker is used during class — use your phone or browser on laptop to answer
questions in class — have it set up by January 18th. Directions on syllabus a little over
10% of grade
All assignments this semester due at 11:59
Late assignments — 10% loss per day it’s late
Own responsibility to sign up for the CPR/AED classes in order to get certified by APRIL
15
Two separate uploadings for assignments — one for numerical answer ONLY; the other
will be for a PDF file upload to show your work
Labs
Practice day — you can come in and practice any of the content/assessments to
be prepared for the practical lab exams
Lab this friday — look over the handout prior to attending class
Definitely need the ACSM textbook posted on syllabus can get 10th or 11th edition —
also need the fitness manual

Heart Failure leading to transplants — steps to succeed
1) Assess fitness levels along with lungs/heart tests through VO2 max test
2) if VO2 is 14 or less then you will be considered and bumped up for heart
transplant — also important in figuring out what will happen after heart transplant
**besides age, VO2 max is the #1 predictor for life expectancy
Review: VO2 max is measured if 2 of the 4 criteria are met (RPE greater
than 17, RER greater than or equal to 1.1, heart beat within 10 BPM or
age predicted HR, or plateau (if at least 2 of these are not met then it is
considered a VO2 peak)
