Who I Am as a Writer
My writing journey started at the age of six. Ever since I started elementary
school and truly got a feel of what writing is I knew it is something I have always wanted
to do. Writing to this day is one of my favorite outlets to express my emotions and
creativity. It started with me writing little stories for myself when I was younger and
writing songs. As I got older and went into middle school, I really got inspired to write
poetry. I just found it so fascinating and beautiful, the way you can express yourself
through words that have a deeper underlying meaning. This progressed and poems
turned to stories and the stories turned to journaling about my thoughts and feelings.
Currently what I have been doing for writing is doing a lot of short-stories as I
have had to do this for my Theater Analysis class I took recently. I am pretty familiar and
confident with this as I have had the opportunity of doing it a good amount of times over
the previous school year. I am also fairly acquainted with poetry as I got to learn all
about what it means to write a good poem in high school. The experiences I have had
with writing have shaped me to who I am today as writing helped grow into a well-
rounded student and a more intellectual individual. Sharing my work with my peers and
advisors has helped me be able to receive feedback and better articulate my words.
This has helped me gain the confidence and drive I have for writing.
My hope is to continue to strengthen this craft and passion of mine and to be
more well-rounded in this field. I would hope to experiment with non-fiction works more
as I have not had too much experience doing this and it would be really captivating and
absorbing for me to understand how to write and tell true stories. To expand on this, I
would also really love to learn more about writing memories and just auto-biographies in
general. This is because one day I would like to write a memoir about my life. I would
want it to focus on also giving people advice on mental health.
The reason I would want that to be the primary topic is I have struggled with
anxiety and would definitely incorporate this into my book. I know how lonely it gets
when you deal with something like this as you feel like nobody will understand you.
Through my own experiences I know that this is most definitely. I feel as though if I
share how I felt and everything I dealt with, I may hopefully help some people know that
it gets better and that they are not alone.
My goals for this class consist of getting better at thinking more flexibly, as when I
do this I know not only will my writing improve, but I as a person will as well. I am thrilled
to be taking this class and look forward to learning more about a field I am very
passionate and excited about.
