1. Under what circumstances might a designer choose a precast concrete framing
system over a sitecast system? Under what circumstances might a sitecast system be
favored?
-Precast concrete framing system when there is reduced weight, compatible with all types of
weather and there can be a sense of quality control
-Sitecast system when there are unusual shapes, sculptural shapes have to be formed, customized
surface texture and two-way actiom.
2. Why are precast concrete structural elements usually cured with steam?
- The process of allowing the concrete to reach its full strength is shortened in time.
3. Explain several methods of producing hollow-core slabs.
-By casting concrete in two layers and using dry aggregate as a filler or direct
extrusion.
4. Diagram from memory several different ways of connecting precast concrete
beams to columns.
- Discontinuous beam and column
- Weld plate
5. Diagram from memory a method of connecting a pair of untopped double-tee
slabs to an inverted-tee beam. Then work out a similar way of connecting a double
tee to an L- shaped beam, as would occur around the perimeter of the same building.
6. Explain the construction process for a filigree precast concrete system. What are
the unique advantages of this system over other concrete systems?
- Formwork cost less than the typical site cast concrete.
