How is Technology Changing the Way We Process Information?
The utilization of technology has changed the process of purchasing information by
making it quicker and more accessible. Mobile devices and the internet enable instant access to
information, thus promoting a culture of impulsiveness and distraction (Cain & Mitroff, 2019).
This has caused people to have a shorter attention spans and prefer to skim through information
(Benedek, 2021). Digital amnesia refers to how easily one can forget online information, which
affects one's memory (Coman et al., 2019).
Technology influences our decision-making by providing information and computational
support. This can help facilitate more informed decisions; however, due to the vast influx of
information, it becomes challenging to distinguish between relevant information and noise (Karr-
Wisniewski & Lu, 2019). This paradox underlines the need to enhance Information Management
Strategies to increase the quality of decisions made.
Social interactions are fundamentally altered if relationships are mediated through digital
technology. Social networks and messaging applications provide opportunities to keep in touch
even if people are far away, and they help build social connections around the globe (Miller,
2020). However, these tools can also undermine the quality of relationships. This mode of
communication may be characterized by deficiencies in nonverbal cues, including gestures,
verbal intonations, eye contact, or touch, which can result in misinterpretation and feelings of
isolation (Vogels, 2021).
In addition, constant communication through digital devices can interfere with face-to-
face contact, decrease the quality of interactions, and detrimentally affect interpersonal
connections (Roberts & David, 2020). This raises the question of integrating sufficient face-to-
face contact to keep our relationships from becoming stale or superficial.
To sum up, technology has advantages, like improved information availability and
connectedness, but it also has disadvantages, like information overload, digital amnesia, and a
decrease in the quality of interactions. Engaging in mindful practices and practicing good
information management can reduce such detrimental impacts on cognition and sociality.

Hi Marla,
Thank you for sharing your views about the role of technological advancements in influencing
information flow and relationship management. I completely agree with your points about real-
time information and how AI can enhance and filter data. As you rightly said, though the
technology is very efficient in its approach, it has issues like information overload. Your
reflection on the advantages and disadvantages of digital communication is enlightening. Having
the possibility to maintain relationships even when people are geographically far from each other
is priceless. However, you mentioned that it is challenging to communicate frequently since
there are no body language signals, and sometimes people need to understand each other.
