Using Table 2 from the Talking to Parents about Adolescent Sexuality article, create a dialogue
between Yesmina and her mother for after Juan leaves. The dialogue can reference past
conversations that Yesmina has had with either parent. This should represent best practices in
parent-adolescent sexual conversation.
Mom: Would you like to tell me what was happening here?
Yesmina: Juan and I… had sex.
Mom: Was this your first time?
Yesmina: Yes, but I promise we were being careful!
Mom: So, you guys made sure to use a condom?
Yesmina: Yes. I remember everything you told me.
Mom: Okay well that’s good. I’m glad you guys are being safe, but we need to have boundaries,
okay? I don’t appreciate you guys sneaking around my house.
Yesmina: Okay. I’m sorry mom. I just really love him and he said he loves me too.
Mom: That’s great sweetie, but how do you know he loves you besides him telling you?
Yesmina: Juan is so kind to me and supports me in everything I do, just like I do for him too.
He’s also really trustworthy. I feel like I can tell him anything.
Mom: I’m glad that you found someone so great for you. I just want you to continue to take care
of yourself. We should talk about considering birth control because although using a condom is
great protection, there is still a possibility of getting pregnant.
Yesmina: Oh, okay. I think I remember you mentioning that before.
Mom: I’ll set up an appointment with your doctor and we’ll talk about options with her. Love
you, sweetie.
