Creative Assignment 1
Hello! My name is Omar Bakir and I am a sophmore at ASU majoring in Biological Sciences. I
plan on continuing my education after ASU onto Medical School. I came to Arizona from New
Jersey when I was 6 years old. I started to love gardening when I successfully planted radishes in
my backyard in the 7th grade. Now I plan on planting many fruit trees and vegetables in my
garden. My favorite plant is the Wonderful Pomegranate Shrub also known as Punica
granatum. This shrub is my favorite plant because of the delicious pomegranates it produces. My
favorite fruit is pomegranate. This plant is well adapted to the climate in phoenix. It can
withstand the low and high temperatures that occur in the valley. It is able to grow in zones 5-24,
H1, H2. The Pomegranate shrub grows great in Arizona and other deserts because it needs full
sun to grow well. The Wonderful Pomegranate Shrub can grow 15-20 ft tall and wide! This plant
can handle drought but produces better fruit when watered regularly. Beautiful red flowers
appear in the spring then turn into 5-in. wide Pomegranates in the fall. I planted the Pomegranate
Shrub in the photo in March 2012. Until now it is doing great and growing really fast!
