Movie analysis

Youcanexploreatheme.docx

You can explore a theme, an idea, an aspect of gender roles, power or race or class. You can talk about the costumes or sets or environment or other physical aspects of the films. You can discuss the plots or decisions or how the stories end. You can discuss the values or ethics or goals or decisions or skills of the characters. You can analyze (and describe) anything you think is significant.  You can write 2 pages about one movie and 2 pages about another. Or, you can write 4 pages analytically comparing two films. The points are the same.   (The same goes for the extra credit films. 2 pages about one and 2 about another, or 4 about two films analyzed together.)   Whatever you discuss, remember that these are not like book reports. I do not want simple summary. I want analysis, thought, insight, reflection, a specific argument. Details from the films should serve your argument, not just pad the length of the paper.  This is not a summary or movie review.   Do not base your paper on plot summaries from the internet.   If you have not watched the films, do not bother writing about them.   It doesn’t matter whether you enjoyed the film. It doesn’t matter whether you relate to the film.   Offer a coherent, analytical perspective on the ideas in the film.   These can be submitted to Canvas at any point before midnight on June 14.
