Summary:

The evidence shows that people often don't have the ability to deal with issues cooperatively. Many researches indicate that a global deficit in the obtainment of cooperation techniques. There are three crux solutions to deal with the problem. Nowadays, many university graduate students overrate their capacity and they are all lacking the ability of collaborative skills. For this problem, researchers said that the most important thing is to give them specific instruction and feedback. Also, they need to be forced to have reaction on their groupwork. Then, there also have three main factors that can help collaborative study.

Thesis/ Controlling Idea:

In “Collaboration problem solvers are not born—here’s what you need to know,” Stephen M. Flore suggests the collaboration skills of students can be significantly overrated by themselves, because it is not good for them to lack both “systematic instruction” and not get enough feedback. In other words, “systematic instruction” and adequate feedback is important for students to do teamwork. Also, if they do not have “systematic instruction” and sufficient feedback, it has negative impact on their groupwork.

Body paragraph#1:

“Systematic instruction” means regard the leaning as a system and start learning from a clear direction. First step is to determine the goal of the study according to the assignments or tasks and then search the information together to make plans and choose strategies to achieve the goal. Because of these steps, we can have a study system to finish our work and when we meet different tasks, we can have a similar system to solve it together efficiently and quickly. In the end, we can evaluate our achievement. For the evaluation, feedback can help us to perfect weakness and improve our jobs. Enough feedback can tell us what the mistakes or issues of our tasks is and it can make us realize the deficiencies and mistakes clearly and we can improve these deficiencies on the basis of the feedbacks, which makes our groupwork more perfect and better. “It is very important for students to obtain systematic instruction with sufficient feedback the sooner the better.” When students get “systematic instruction” and “adequate feedback”, they can complete their study teamwork more efficiently and perfect. Also, it can help them do groupwork on when they work in the future. To be more specific, it not only can arouse the enthusiasm of students to study, make them be feel willing to take the initiative to acquire knowledge and then have a deep impression of the knowledge, but also can make students to improve their ability to study and their knowledge level. It is just like when I make the plan of the traveling and I always call it a “strategy” in Chinese. Before I travel to other cities or countries, I will search the information about local places, delicious food and so on. When I search for the information, I will have a specific method to my search. I have some applications on my phones that are specifically used to search the information of “strategy”, such as “OpenTable” and “Yelp” which are both the food applications that can find the most delicious and are worth going to restaurants. The applications I used are very convenient and accurate. Using these information and applications, I can make “strategy” and plan the schedule of the trip. After I made the a “strategy”, I will feel at ease, be very confident and trust the trip. Then, when I arrive at the places of my trip, maybe I will revise my “strategy” on my way according to the events that happened at that time and the local weather, which are all my feedbacks in the moment. The “strategy” is variable. After I did “strategy” several times, I was very willing to do the it and happy to do. Also, when my friends or classmates went to the same place as me, I often share my “strategy” and experience to them, and they will tell me their feeling and experience of my “strategy”. From their feedbacks, I can know more information about the deficiencies of my “strategy” and then I can perfect it more. In conclusion, systematic instruction and adequate feedback is important for students to do teamwork.

While they get “systematic instruction” and “adequate feedback”, they also need to realize the true situation of their teamwork. The teamwork is not about one person, it is the work that need every one of the team need to make effort to accomplish it and need team spirit, skills and ability. This means after they master “systematic instruction” and obtain “adequate feedback”, they need to realize the present situation of everyone’s work, their difficulties and relationship between other team members. These elements are all very crucial. If students realize everyone’s job status, they can know others’ difficulties and solve it together. There is strength in numbers, and everyone can brainstorm with each other to deal with difficulties. People express their ideas, opinions about how to simplify the problems through the talking and find the best way to solve it. In this way, group members are all trying to spend a lot of time to listen to others’ opinions and voices rather than interrupt and contradict others. Therefore, they combine the key parts of every ideas and obtain a best solution of the difficult. The team can learn from this process and improve themselves in this process. Also, the relationship of team members can get closer in this way. The relationship is important to for collaboration, too. It directly affects the team's ability to work together. When they have close relationship, they can realize everyone ‘s advantages and trust each other. A team is a collaborative group that requires team members to have mutual trust. Trust is the cornerstone of cooperation. Without trust, there cannot cooperate together. Trust is a kind of inspiration or power when team members face to difficulties and feel stress and confusion. They can make a good team spirit after they have good relationship and then they can become everyone’s spiritual pillar when they face difficulties and problems. For example, my best friend and me I can also be regarded as small team group. Our difficulties are the clothes and shoes that the things we want to but in our daily life. We always ask each other’s opinion when we want to buy somethings, because we want to know other’s opinion about these things, we trust each other and hoping other’s thinking to help ourselves to make the decision. Every time we face the difficulties, we will remember each other at the first time and ask other’s idea to solve our difficulties and make the decision. The trust is the cornerstone of our cooperation and close friendship. In conclusion, realizing the present difficulties of groupwork and make good team spirit has positive impact on their groupwork.

Obtaining “Systematic instruction” and “adequate feedback” is useful for students to do teamwork. Also, students must need to realize the true situation like difficulties of their groupwork and make good team spirit, which has positive impact on their groupwork. Conclusively, it is important for students to learn how to do a good teamwork and the strategy of teamwork both include the “Systematic instruction” and “adequate feedback”, which facilitates a good teamwork.
