YAL DISCUSSION ON good lit.
5-7 paragraphs, insightful, scholarly, competent, college level content
In our discussions thus far, several of you have raised the issue of what counts as "good literature," so I hope this week's chapter (Literature for Today’s Young Adults, 9th ed.) reading will be useful for you. Chapter 10 addresses how teachers, librarians, and other adults who work with adolescents consider and evaluate texts for adolescents to read in various contexts, including classrooms and libraries. According to your reading for this week, many factors must be considered when determining whether or not a book is an appropriate choice for an adolescent or a group of adolescents. Discuss three points from the chapter that were either new learning to you, raised questions for you, or surprised you.
