The STAR method of proving your skills.

You can promote how and when you have demonstrated the requisite skill using

the STAR method outlined below. As you can see from the diagram, STAR is a

mnemonic that demonstrated an effective way to provide a skill by describing the

following:

 A situation where you have used

the skill:

Provide brief details of an example where

you’ve effectively demonstrated the skill

required (use 10% of the words allowed).

Brevity is essential because your answer

should focus more on what you did than

where and when.

 The task you faced: Briefly paint a

picture of what you had to do. Again, use just enough words to establish

the context of your example (up to 10% of your allocated word limit).

 The actions you took: This should be the main element of your

answer (70% of the word limit) because employers need to quickly

identify how you demonstrated the requisite skills to a high level. State

explicitly how you performed the attributes required using the terms that

are clearly transferable. For example, to prove your organisation skills in

a project you could clearly highlight how you planned ahead, set specific

targets, assessed your progress, made changes where required, and

measured your success.

 A positive result: You will always leave a good impression if you

quantify your success.

Situation - 10% Task - 10%

Action - 70% Result - 10%
