Why do you feel that this disease poses a great threat to the health and well-being of the United States? Write a paragraph indicating why you wish to pursue this research topic. Why do you feel this particular disease is such a great threat?

I choose obesity as my research topic. Obesity poses a higher death risk since according to Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (2017) there are 36.5 %; over one-third of United States adults with obesity which has led to increased early deaths in adults, in addition, obesity has been associated with chronic illnesses such as related heart diseases , diabetes, and cancer. Obesity is also estimated to cause an estimated medical cost of $147 billion U.S. dollars annually (CDC, 2017). Obesity is having a body-mass index of more than 30.It has been a concerned as there is continuous increase in weight increase among youthful Americans and this has been taking an upward trend despite vast efforts by the Health sector to improve Physical activities and nutrition.

In today’s American society 70% of the people are obese, obesity has increased in every part of the country, affecting both genders of every age and race, with child obesity occurring as a key issue since it is the second leading cause of early unnecessary deaths in America and numerous chronic illness such as type 2 diabetes, cancer of the kidney, gallbladder, colon and the uterine and heart-related diseases. In addition, the effects of obesity are not only health related, but they also affect the quality of life, as obese people are prone to have poor physical image making them to lack self-confidence and perform poorly in academic and place of work due to discrimination.
