Directions for Part 1: There are 2 practice activities which are not submitted nor graded. These activities are for you to practice identifying and then writing objectives/learning outcomes. This is a difficult skill and you need to practice it, so please complete these practice activities prior to completing Part 2 (the graded part of the assignment).  Writing objectives is the most important skill you need to write effective lessons, so I hope everyone uses this and it helps you write better learning outcomes. 1. How to know if something is age appropriate (DAP):

An important part of writing effective and appropriate objectives is to be sure the objectives are developmentally appropriate for the age (or grade) you have chosen.

· Click onto the link attached (msde-pedagogy-report) to see the Maryland Standards for different grade levels, birth through second grade.

· For standards for prek through 12th grade, click onto the link below from MSDE (Maryland State Dept of Education)  http://mdk12.msde.maryland.gov/instruction/commoncore/

· Click onto the link attached (CDC Milestone Checklist) for milestones for ages Birth-6 years old.

We will talk more about standards in future mods but this will assist you in seeing what is developmentally appropriate for different grade levels.

Use these sites to be sure your objectives, strategies and activities are developmentally appropriate for the age group you selected.

2. Print Bloom's Taxonomy: If you have not already done so, you should also print copies of Bloom's Taxonomy and Writing Learning Outcomes for Lesson Plans" from the Readings from this mod.

3. Click onto the link below for the first practice activity: "Practice Activity on Identifying Measurable Objectives." You should complete this and then click onto the second link called "Answer Key" to check your answers.

4.  Click onto the link below for the second practice activity: "Practice Activity on Writing Outcomes." You should complete this and then click onto the second link called "Answer Key" to check your answers.

I recommend you should not submit the Assignment on Writing Lesson Objectives until you complete these practice activities.

After you complete these activities, go to Part 2.

Directions for Part 2: This is the graded part which you will submit through the Assignment link.

1.  Choose one of the lessons below:

http://www.reachoutmichigan.org/funexperiments/agesubject/lessons/arb/livingtree.html

http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/lessonplans/animals/makeafarm.html

https://www.uen.org/lessonplan/view/39273

Be sure to include the url in the assignment so I know which one you have chosen.

2.  List the grade level: Even if there is a grade level listed for the lesson you chose, you must decide if this is an appropriate age group based on DAP. If you don't feel that the grade level listed is appropriate for the lesson you chose, you can change it, but it needs to be developmentally appropriate. Remember that the age/grade levels are: from age 3 to grade 3. You can only choose ONE age or grade.

3.  Write 3 objectives for this lesson. Remember to use DAP (developmentally appropriate practice) in the writing, and focus on the skills/concepts being taught. Be sure to use the proper format for objectives and make sure all of your outcomes are clear, specific, and measurable. You must include one objective from Bloom's levels 1 or 2, and 2 objectives which are from higher Bloom's levels.

Do not worry about using mc concepts or information as part of this assignment. This assignment is just to give you practice with writing appropriate learning outcomes for a specific lesson. The mc concepts will come in future assignments with different lessons/scenarios.

Use your Bloom’s Taxonomy and Writing Learning Outcomes for Lessons Power Point Notes to do this (from this module's readings.)

Before you turn in this assignment, please make sure that:

1) you have chosen one of the lessons listed above and include the url;

2) you have chosen a developmentally appropriate age/grade for your lesson,

3) each objective is clear, specific, and measurable,

4) one objective is low level Bloom and two objectives are from higher levels of Bloom's.
