Writing Dialogue for the assignment Napoleon has just moved into his first apartment with his roommate Pedro. He calls his Uncle Rico, on September 12, 2019, for advice.

Characters: Napoleon, Uncle Rico, Mr. Yunioshi

Setting: A dingy little apartment somewhere in upstate New York.

Napoleon: Uncle Rico, this is Napoleon.

Uncle R (annoyed): Why are you calling me? I’m busy doing my workout.

Napoleon: Uncle Rico, we have some problems with the apartment.

Uncle R: Like what?

Napoleon: Well, the door doesn’t close properly, so we can’t lock it. And, there’s no hot water coming out of the kitchen sink.

Uncle R: Do you have a lease? Napoleon: Yeah. I think so.

Uncle R: Well get it the heck out. It’s your contract. Don’t you know that? It says what the landlord has to do.

Napoleon (taking a minute or so to get it out of his pocket): OK. I’ve got it.

Uncle R: Take a look and see if it says that the landlord has to fix your two problems. If not, you’re on your own. Call the landlord and let him know.

Napoleon (with emphasis): OK. I’m on it.

A month later, on October 12, 2019, Napoleon gets around to calling his landlord, Mr. Y unioshi.

Napoleon: Hello, Mr. Yunioshi?

Mr. Y: Speaking.

Napoleon: This is Napoleon D., your tenant.

Mr. Y: Speak up boy. What is the address of your apartment?

Napoleon: I’m in 6C at (address)

Mr. Y: What’s the problem?

Napoleon: We can’t lock the door and there’s no hot water coming from the kitchen sink. Mr. Y: Why didn’t you call me earlier about this?

Napoleon: Uh ... Uh ....

Mr. Y: Nevermind, I’ll tell my handyman to stop by and take care of it ASAP! Napoleon: (Hurriedly) Thanks Mr. Y. ‘Bye now.

A month goes by and no one has showed up to fix the problems in Napoleon’s apartment. Thus, on November 12, 2019, Napoleon (you) decides to write a complaint letter to Mr. Yunioshi at 20 Major Street, Basel, New York 10709.
