Writing Assignments: Expectations are that you will write at least three informed paragraphs (each paragraph being about 5-6 sentences) for the essay questions, and at least one paragraph for the short answers. The questions will come from the text and from my notes of important literatures and concepts in international politics. When answering questions, I would urge you to provide a good background of the issue in your responses. Then go about demonstrating your points with specific examples and substantial evidence. Essay (Please answer only one essay question): If you want to understand international politics today, you must understand both the political and economic relations among countries. Discuss the validity of this statement, being sure to point to the important theories in international political economy (IPE) and real-world interactions of international politics and economics. Cite specific examples where appropriate.

· Discuss the differences in the levels of development between the North and the South as well as the differences in the distribution of income within countries of the South. Why do these differences exist? Summarize some of the proposals suggested for addressing the inequities between the North and the South.

Short Answer (Please answer three of five questions):

Identify and explain three of DeGeorge's ethical guidelines by which multinational corporations (MNCs) should follow when operating in LDCs. Cite examples.

· How has international trade expanded over the last century?

· Make the case for free trade discussing three points to back up your argument.

· Choose one global or regional economic IGO and describe its origin and functions.

· Do you agree with Drezner that the outsourcing of American jobs is part of globalization and benefits the US in the end? Why or why not?
