Writing Assignment III

The wife and mother of Mr. Lamont Watkins came to the office to seek justice on behalf of their recently deceased loved one. Mr. Watkins an attorney from Atlanta, Georgia, but living in Hampton, Virginia. He decided to take a trip to Hollywood, Florida. To avoid traffic, he decided to leave at 11pm to arrive at his destination at 11am. Around 4am he noticed that his car was driving horribly and he pulled over to the side of the road in Pensacola, Florida. Upon further inspection he saw that he had a flat tire. Instead of calling AAA he decided to change the tire himself and continue on his trip. Mr. Watkins was driving a 2019 SLK Mercedes Benz with dark tent. Mr. Watkins was a light complexion black male about 5’6, late twenties and has a stocky build.

Martin Jones a current Georgia State Trooper was on his way to his home in Pensacola, Florida noticed Mr. Watkins pulled over to the side of the Highway. Mr. Jones was off that day however; he was concerned that the car on the side of the road was stolen. There has been a rash of stolen Mercedes in the states of Florida and Georgia by a person identified as a dark complexion black male, early to late thirties, athletic build and approximately 5’10 to 6’2. Martin pulled over in his personal 2012 Toyota Camry pulled his weapon out and told Lamont to step away from the vehicle. Mr. Watkins stood up with the tire axe in his hand and attempted to run away from Mr. Jones. Martin afraid that he was going to get away chased him down the highway and shot him in the back three times. Tragically he died on the scene.

Upon investigation it was determined that there was a loaded 9MM handgun in the glove compartment of Mr. Watkins car. It was never pulled out during the altercation and was locked the entire time. Also. Mr. Watkins had was a well-known civil rights attorney who brought numerous cases against various police departments. Mr. Jones has a stellar work history except for the one internal affairs complaint that stated that he made racial slurs and discriminatory remarks to fellow police officers.

Stephanie Watkins (wife) and Zelma Watkins (mom) are now in our Virginia Beach and Florida offices. Please research the possible claims and issues that they may have. Then file a complaint against Mr. Jones and possibly the state of Georgia. Furthermore, make sure you are in the correct jurisdiction and have proper venue to file.
