Writing Assignment

Writing Assignment:

Each student will required to write a 4 page about a condition from the list below or one that has been cleared with the professor. In other words, if you have personal knowledge or interest in a psychological disorder that you would like to write a paper about, send me an email. I want to okay the topic beforehand to make sure it is appropriate.

I ask that you follow APA style when referencing your sources.  Please use 12 point font Times New Roman (which also follows APA style).  The 4 page requirement does not include the necessary Reference Page.  Title pages are not necessary.

Writing Assignment

The paper should:

A. Define the condition (e.g., how does it come about? What are the main issues?)

B. Describe how one might recognize a person with the condition (e.g., what are the symptoms? What does it look like to an outsider?)

C. Possible therapies for the condition.  Please do not try and spend a bulk of the paper describing drug therapies for the disorder. Two or three paragraphs describing therapies should suffice.

D. You will need to also turn in typed references (not included in page requirement). You may use any source you can find (i.e., books, internet, magazines), as long as you include them in your references. preferably articles from peer a reviewed journal.  APA citation style is required.

APA Format In-Text Citation

When you have used a source in an assignment it is necessary to credit the source for the reader.

This credit appears in two places: within the body of the assignment (the in-text citation) and at the end of the assignment (in the reference list). For every in-text citation there should be a matching entry in the reference list, and vice versa.

The in-text citation contains basic information about the source:

The source's author(s)

The year of publication

The page number (sometimes)

APA Format In-Text Citation

An in-text citation looks like this:

When testing the usability of a website, it is necessary to gather demographic information about the users (Lazar, 2006).

Note that the full stop only comes after the closing bracket, and that only the surname (family name) of the author is used.

The author's name can also be incorporated into a sentence in the assignment, in which case it is moved outside the brackets:

Lazar (2006) notes that a fundamental part of usability testing is understanding the demographics of the users.

An in-text citation is needed whenever you have used information, ideas, concepts, or facts from another source. If you have paraphrased, summarised or quoted another author, you need to provide an in-text citation.
