Top 3 Reasons of Learning a Second Language at a Younger Age
There are more and more parents willing to ask their children to learn a second language at a very young age. Eighty percent of Americans believe that children should learn a second language fluently before graduate from high school (Bartolotti & Marian, 2016). A second language could be a new skill for their children in their future development. Even though the bilingualism may cause delay in cognitive development, it would still benefit in children’s development overall.
· Learn easier and faster.
Start learning a new language could stimulate children to form the structure of different languages, it might be a little difficult at the beginning, and children might mix the structure of different languages, this could still help children with their language development (Rosenbusch, 1987). Once they can distinguish the differences between language, it would not be that hard, and not only languages, but learning any other skills could find the techniques to start with. In this way, children could save a lot of time in learning and make it easier.
· Connect with other culture background.
Another language represents another culture, understand the culture could help children learn and understand their language. Also, gaining the knowledge of another culture is not a bad thing that it could expand children’s worldview and cultivate children’s interests. From Bartolotti and Marian’s study, the second language learning would make children more sensitive in language and vocabulary which could easily perceive the third language (Bartolotti & Marian, 2016). Connecting with another culture could help children easily build the tolerance, they could understand different opinions from different view and stand from another perspective.
· Benefits future career and development.
Fluently speaking with another language would be a specific skill for children when they grow up and find a job. That would become a bonus point when applying a new job or a new career. Also, the company definitely provides more opportunities for them to connect the sources with different culture and increased the opportunities of socializing (Klimova, 2018). Back to the reality, having the skill of another language get more salaries than general workers.
